wtnhunt
They have still not called for my kids schools for tomorrow yet, they will wait until tomorrow morning. Don't know why they wait to the last minute but they always do, our district is usually one of the very last to get out closings. Looks eminent that we will get hit with ice here, just a matter of whether or not it will be as bad as they are suggesting and exactly when it is going to be here. If it is as bad as they are predicting it is very likely there will be mass power outages. Hopeful the temps make for the precip to do anything but be freezing rain. Will never forget the 94 and 96 ice storms, we went without power in 96 for almost 2 weeks. Crazy how people fly off the handle and act stupid. Hysteria and panic have already set in and the storm has not even gotten here yet. Heard bunk reports on the radio early this morning right after I left wal mart about how our local wal mart was rationing bread and water, completely false. Store was extremely busy for that time of the morning, but was plenty of bread on the shelves.
Ravin R10 man
Tominator...don't know how you teachers put up with these "well behaved" youth today.. as to Williams comment on food run.....and Chris...we don't mean to hijack the thread.. Many of todays familys are living from hand to mouth, as far as grocerys are concerned.. you would not believe how many have to stop on the way home to "pick something up" for supper don't know if they cant plan a weeks meneu out or what, and God forbid if the microwave don't work! My grandmother could whip up a meal , with REAL mashed potatoes, while visiting with us when we dropped in...half an hour you were eating..and eating GOOD!...that was, AFTER she said "Grace" of course, and that experience in itself! Tominator
I hear you William. I hope the ice stays away, nothing good comes of it. And, I dare say 50% of the snow days I've gotten over the years is due to media hype. It's sensational, and preys on the feelings of all the moms out there. hogwild63
My wife is hoping for a delayed start because, if they close school for tomorrow, that means they have to make it up on Good Friday. Dallas County has already closed its offices and courts so I can sleep in unless school is not closed and my daughter has to be taken to school . We don't get wintery mixes in Dallas as much as we get Black Ice.

The Bug House
Wow, that just sucks. I've never met a teacher like that in my 24 years of public education. Never heard of a "Blizzard Bag"? Me neither, until I had kids in school! I guess if the kids do the assignment at home during a closing, they don't have to make the day up. The Bug House
The weather here has been surprisingly quiet the past week or so. Pretty typical temps, (high 30's / 20's) and just a few sprinkles/flurries. Turning colder tonight, with 2" - 4" on the way. Forecast looks cold next week.... RangerClay
Had freezing rain sticking on the windsheild on the way into school this morning. Not even a delay. We're supposed to get lake effect tonight, we'll see what happens. In my region we need at least a foot of snow before we delay or close. RangerClay
I got the three favorite words this morning "Lake Effect Warning". Supposed to get 12-24" of white stuff tonight. Time to batten down the hatches!
