smha6784
What opinions do you guys have about this caliber for a deer gun ?
Zizzer59
I haven't heard anything bad about it for deer. Low recoil, plenty of knock down power they say, but ammo would probably be a little hard to find.
Ravin R10 man
Great gun, youth or lady ammo is plentiful here 40+ a box Edited December 16, 2013 by Mathews XT Man
smha6784
For a combo of both, 7mm-08 ammo is plentiful here too
Zizzer59
It may be plentiful here too, I don't look for it but I didn't remember seeing any. I just look for 30-06, .270, and 7.62x39.
wtnhunt
Never heard anything negative about it, have no first hand experience. I would probably check ammo availability and price before making that decision though .
redkneck
Great round, great ballistics, high BC round that delivers a lot of energy. If I had only one deer rifle for this part of the country where shots seldom are greater than 150 yards max, it would likely be the 7-08. elkoholic
Excellent round for deer and with premium bullets (Federal 140gr TSX) would be minimal for elk. My daughter has a Remington model 7 youth in 7mm-08 and it is minute of angle accurate. With standard Crore-lokt ammo (inexpensive and readily available) you can be confident shooting to 300 yards on deer. The 120 gr loads are great for varmints. No deer that I have seen shot with the 7mm-08 round has gone more than 40 yards and several have dropped on the spot. My only negative comment would be that with the Remington model 7 youth fresh out of the box there was significant muzzle jump which we tamed by having a muzzle brake installed. Having the barrel ported would have been a better option but much more expensive.
SouthGaHuntingandOutdoors
I used a 7mm-08 earlier this year, knocked a doe down in her tracks. It was a TC single shot. Great gun, looking for one myself.
Squirrelhunter91
I don't own one. My buddy has one and he took it out the one day he gun hunted this year with me. He shot a doe at 30 yards on a drive. I'm not sure what weight bullets or brand he was shooting but I can find out. It blew a really good exit hole through her. Incredible expansion at such a short range. I have pics of unskinned exit and skinned exit with daylight straight through to entrance if you guys wanna see. I was impressed with the round.
