dbHunterNY
the first outdoor 3D shoot for the region is this weekend. I might go if I can get my bows back together.
Turkeygirl
Good luck db!! I got back to the range today, missed last week, had to shoot 3 scored today: 145, 150, 147. Changed out my peep....had 1/4" on my bow but for 3D I see too much around, my eyes wander, went down to a 3/16".
dbHunterNY
yea indoor 3D isn't bad but outdoor 3D I like the 1/4" peep. the more light lets me see more definition or points of reference to aim at on the targets. my 3D bow is also going to serve as a backup hunting bow so I want all the light and viewing area for hunting. dbHunterNY
had a family get together so I never made it to the shoot.
Turkeygirl
Thinking of getting some 3D specific arrows - I get arrows from south shore archery via archery talk...great arrow builder, he recommended black eagle ultralight challenger. dbHunterNY
yea I don't have any experience with Black Eagle arrows or know anyone that does. Goldtip and Easton is most of my experience. Shot some others a little but seems I've stuck with Easton. if I was to try something else it'd be Muddy I guess.
Turkeygirl
Well shot my last 3 scores today - 145, 146, and 152...the 17th is the awards banquet....no idea this year how I faired, lol. I will say probably shot my highest scores this year, being my 3rd year in the league.
dbHunterNY
good shooting Ruth... I'd say there's a darn good chance you're ready for this fall.
dbHunterNY
I had put together a new bow setup for this year's outdoor 3D bowhunter class. It's a left over '13 PSE Bowmaddness 3G. yesterday afternoon I tuned it right after work and then headed next door to the club. they have indoor vegas shooting at each Wednesday night. for those that don't know, for vegas you shoot 45 arrows with maximum of 10 points per arrow, or 450 total max score. ten ring is 1 9/16" in diameter. the scoring rings go out from there. you shoot at a distance of 20 yards. anyway, first time shooting the bow and half way through the module on my cam loosened up during the shoot. it took a few shots to figure out what was going on and throwing my arrows off. I just had to tighten it back up and make a minor adjustment to get me back dead center on target again. I ended up shooting a 428/450. Not sure how many X's in the center of the ten ring I hit, but they don't count for score and only to break a tie anyway.
Turkeygirl
Sounds like a darn good score db!!
dbHunterNY
there's blue loc-tite on the screws for the module. it shouldn't loosen up again. I could've shot a little better. I'm using Easton Hexx 400 arrows. They're pretty small in diameter. So as you see I got lots of excuses. Hopefully next time I don't have has many. haha
Turkeygirl
I just ordered up a dozen new arrows built more for 3D - GoldTip Velocities with 85 gr points, pin bushings and nocks.
smha6784
What's the basic rules for leauges and 3d shoots I use an HHA slider is it legal
dbHunterNY
an HHA slider is legal for some classes at some shoots and not for others. you really have to look into rules of what you're shooting. for example I'm shooting local shoots here in NY that are part of the Northeastern Bowhunter Alliance. If shooting the bowhunter class you can have a stabilizer 12" or less and a sight with no magnification lens. however, if you shoot an IBO shoot it's different. for that bowhunter class the same applies but you have to have fixed pins. also each pin diameter has to be the same. I could qualify for the IBO World Championship as I've done in the past but I wouldn't be able to go as I've got a baby coming. so I'm shooting an HHA dial sight in bowhunter or open classes around here. Turkeygirl
Good info DB. I have a black gold fixed pin site - 2 .019 pins and 2 .10 pins...so if I wanted to shoot an ibo qualifier next year and try to qualify, I'd have to have pins all the same size? dbHunterNY
Good info DB. I have a black gold fixed pin site - 2 .019 pins and 2 .10 pins...so if I wanted to shoot an ibo qualifier next year and try to qualify, I'd have to have pins all the same size? 2014 rules for IBO. female hunter class uses same equipment but shoot from a closer stake. 1. Hunter Class (HC) A compound, recurve, or longbow shot with or without sights. A sight shall have fixed pins, cross hair, or circle style pins without lens or magnification. If circle style pins are used, all circles must be the same size. A sight may have a rear aperture (i.e., peep sight or fixed rifle type sight). Note rule change (III.C.6) concerning peep sights. Sights may not be adjusted after entering the shooting course. Arrows must have screw-in points and at least three (3) feathers or vanes no less than two (2) inches long (measured minimum 1.75 inches). Only one stabilizer having a single point of attachment may be used. The stabilizer can be any shape or configuration as long as it is contained within a theoretical sphere having a radius of 12 inches measured from the point of attachment. Additional Vbars, counter balances, or weighted attachments are prohibited. (For the purposes of this rule, any device adding length or weight to the stabilizer shall be considered part of the stabilizer and shall be subject to the 12-inch rule.) Un-weighted vibration dampeners are not considered to be stabilizers; however, un-weighted vibration dampeners attached to the stabilizer are measured as a part of the stabilizer and are subject to the 12-inch rule above. Equipment in this class may be shot with finger tab, shooting glove or release. HC archers shoot from the yellow stake. dbHunterNY
Geesh...I'll have to see if I can replace the pins on my Black Gold... that's the interpretation I've heard from many but I'd call them before you do just to make sure it hasn't changed. below is the number. http://www.ibo.net/contact.php
