horst
Re: Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand Ive shot several deer walking in or out from my stands and its usually more fun than shooting them from the stand itself.Only problem really with shooting bucks this way you usually dont get a very good chance to look them over first. David_218
Re: Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand I've done this a couple of times; however, in some ways, it takes the fun out of hunting. Back in 1997 I was on the way back to my tree stand, on our property, but before I reached it, a nice buck appeared on the way so I took him. billkay
Re: Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand [ QUOTE ] In a half a heartbeat. [/ QUOTE ] Anything to cut a few steps, huh Tom LOL I'll never forget the second hog you shot. LOL If the deer I came across on the way to my stand was one I wanted to harvest, I'd surely take the shot. If it weren't, I'd continue to my stand. BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand Legal shooting time in a second I'd shoot him.. who cares if you are in the tree if you can sneak close enough for the shot with a bow... or gun so be it if its legal I say dead deer
johnf
Re: Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand The first deer I shot, I saw when I was climbing down the stand I was on. I pulled up my gun which I had already let down and shot her from the ladder. Any time you have a shot, take it if it's legal.
wtnhunt
Re: Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand If it was a buck I wanted to kill and I had a good shot opportunity during legal light I would shoot it without any hesitation. I have bumped deer on my way in the afternoons on many occasions. Never a shooter buck, but have had them come back and sometimes they bring friends. Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand Heck yea. I shot a doe a couple years ago with my bow one morning as I was walking out from a morning hunt. She walked out 15 yards in front of me and never saw me (I was walking behind some thicker stuff). I saw her, knocked an arrow, stepped into an opening, and let if fly. 40 yards later I was doing some unexpected field dressing.

GWSmith
Re: Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand Pardon the expression...."In a New York Minute" To be more exact...the hunt starts for me when I leave the truck. As soon as legal shooting hours have come around I am ready. On my way to my stand encompasses the possible area of the deer I'm hunting....If I'm not ready to legally harvest....Its a failure on my part. One thing you mentioned is that this area holds a much larger buck that your hunting....patience is the only way you will get him. I can see taking a doe if your tags allow...but you can figure on only so many chances at the big guy...do what you can to maximize those chances! Getting to your stand in the dark ussually solves these decision making processes....and as an added bonus you get the "Standing Hair on the back of your neck experience" of getting blown at by deer in the dark!!! MossySNPR
Re: Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand For sure I would do this, I half expect to see a deer while walking into the stand. If it won't be curious, I just hope I can stalk it and get a shot.

Rhino
Re: Whould you shoot a deer while waling to your stand As far as I'm concerned, I'm hunting from the time I head to my stand until I leave provided it's legal shooting hours. I can't think of a reason why you shouldn't switch your brain over to spot and stalk tactics when you aren't in a stand.
