wtnhunt
Heard on the news there was a shortage. Reporting prices are up nearly double on propane around here up over $3.
WHISKEYSWAMP
I would jump on that deal if you need it... over $4 per gallon here and most won't deliver until your tank is less than 20% and 150 gallons max delivery. They are claiming farmers used excessive amounts drying out there corn this year and of course colder than normal temps.
Ravin R10 man
Were still drying....only on days when temp gets up to +20 lots of corn out in the fields yet too statewide I don't use much propane at the house; our kitchen range, and my outdoor boiler uses lp for start up....otherwise I use wood pellets in my outdoor boiler now, Im impressed how clean they burn, and only about 1 gallon of ash in a weeks time Edited January 29, 2014 by Mathews XT Man
Ohiobucks
2.44 here last week. I hear the shortage is localized...there is plenty of propane throughout the US, it is just short in certain places...
bbarcheryhunter
So is it price gouging or do they really need that much ???? Im lucky here to I only have one small heater and my water heater and a couple lights hooked up to my tank
PotashRLS
Wisconsin has declared a state of emergency with our propane shortage. It is over $5 is many spots. A Natural Gas emergency has been diverted but most didn't know it was in jeopardy.
wtnhunt
Thought there were a couple reasons for the" shortage". Supposedly some supply was disrupted by an explosion in Canada and then this weather requiring excess use. Far as whether or not gouging is happening, sure it is. Tominator
I'm about to find out. My house uses a heat pump until the temps get below about 20 or so, so we've been using quite a bit of propane lately with these brutal temps. My tank got filled back in early November, it's down to 30% as of Tuesday. I have no idea what the Co-op is charging right now.
PotashRLS
You best find out cause up here there was no guarantee the suppliers had any to sell, regardless of price.
bbarcheryhunter
Just heard today from a family that is out of propane and there supplier not sure how soon they will have more and the other suppliers in the area won't because they don't have enough for all there customers .so now they moved in with there parents
Missilelock
I remember the outrage at motels gouging during hurricane Katrina........ this propane thing is no different. I understand the concept of supply and demand. but $5.00 a gal??? somebody should be going to jail to think that one over.
stevebeilgard
let's not forget the ban on drilling we have going on. there may well be a real shortage of gas in general. america has more gas and oil than the entire persian gulf, but the anti's won't allow drilling. they prefer that you freeze in the dark.
