LETMGROW
Does anyone see a trend forming here? http://www.infowars.com/u-s-postal-service-announces-giant-ammo-purchase/ All this going on while our Constitutional "Right To Bear Arms" is eroding away. Are you better off than you were 6 years ago? Lynn
wtnhunt
Usps needs ammo, why??? What funds are they buying with? Troubling. Are you better off than you were 6 years ago? Lynn No as a matter of fact we are not. Household income down by about 12%. Insurance premiums have gone up by about $2000 a year while coverages have gone down. Being squeezed it seems with everything, does not help either that everything costs more.
Maine Hntr
interesting and disturbing article at the same time. I've been to 4 different stores in the last 2 weeks and can't find 9mm ammo anywhere.
LETMGROW
I am surprised but not surprised. 63 views and only two posts. I hope I provoke some thought and folks in other states get active fighting our gestapo before it is too late. When the SAFE Act was passed here in NY we never saw it coming. It was passed at the midnight hour with the legislators having only a few minutes to review the legislation before it was voted on. We as law abiding citizens knew nothing of what was being proposed. We knew nothing about it until the next morning when the newspapers reported it. Totally blind sided! Also totally unconstitutional! As far as the ammo shortage here, the link below should scare he** out of anyone. Suppose our idiot governor declares all ammo sales must be suspended until all the pieces are in place for enforcement of the ammo sales restrictions? Please read the link below. Maine Hntr
Hadn't heard that part of the law before Lynn, I've always been an avid hunter but really just started following all these gun laws and changes etc. the last few years, I'm proud to say that I just this past weekend decided to join the NRA in hopes to be another voice in the fight for our constitutional rights. LETMGROW
Maybe our government really wants us to be Ammo Free. It would be a lot easier for them to control or completely eradicate the folks who don't agree with their policies. While I don't know how truthful this link is it is worth taking a look at. wtnhunt
Maybe our government really wants us to be Ammo Free. I do not doubt that this admin and his doj want us to be without. Around here most ammo with the exception of.22lr can be found pre "shortage" availability.
redkneck
Maybe they're gonna do away with email and force folks to buy stamps at gunpoint? Lol
stevebeilgard
just what our post office needs... lots of ammo. it's part of the obama plan, of course. yet, no one in his administration will know anything about it. just like they know nothing about anything else. Jeramie
couple of things folks.... first, my wife works for the USPS so she has information you guys probably do not hear. First, the USPS is NOT a government funded agency. It is self sufficient. Granted they have taken money to keep from sinking but that is only because they are government controlled, even though they are NOT government owned. Have you heard anything about stopping Saturday deliveries? The USPS can save millions with this move. Mail would still be available in PO boxes but rural carries and city deliveries would stop on Saturdays. Our brilliant government refuses to let them make this cut even though, on a day to day basis, they put nothing into the USPS. When the USPS was founded the government helped to establish it. Ergo, they had laws passed that ANY resident or business that erected a mailbox would be delivered to, no matter where it was located. They also consider postal service work as active duty meaning that people wanting to retire from the military can move into the USPS, even on standby, and will be considered active. They will continue to receive pay and can work there until they can collect 100% of their military retirement. This sounds good for those people, however, it is eroding the USPS operating budgets. In the same sense, a lot of the original laws put in place at the USPS allow people who have been there for so many years to drastically cut their hours and still be eligible to for a HUGE retirement and government benefits. There are literally a TON of people working there in their 70's and they stay on so many hours a week because of the insurance. So many of these problems are poor decision by out government... As far as Ammo... There are actual Postal Inspectors. Do there need to be? Yes... Post offices are robbed, stolen from, etc. pretty regular and they have to be investigated. This is handled internally with USPS postal inspectors. Those inspectors carry guns. These are NOT some highly trained government suit. These are internal USPS employees that have had training akin to police forces. Keep in mind that in any USPS across the USA there are credit cards, cashiers checks, prescription medications, jewelry, social security numbers, etc. One thief gets in and they will have access to a LOT of personal information, drugs, ammo, etc. This is where the postal inspectors come in. The USPS takes this very, very seriously. It is actually a felony for anyone working at the PO to take ANY paper good including the blow ins. If my wife sees a loose set of coupons on the floor with no billing, etc. she cannot keep it...... felony. They do not take personal information lightly. The do not take the theft of one's property, personal information, etc. lightly. They will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. And again, because so much is at risk, they have their own branch that does nothing but investigate and make no mistake, that can be dangerous. My small town had the PO broken into and several letters, etc. were stolen. It was a big deal because of the potential information that got out. Imagine a USPS in Chicago, NY, etc.... even internal theft can be dangerous. If someone catches on they are being investigated chances are they could be violent. They are already committing a felony. Another local case, we had a local PO where the post master was selling stamps and pocketing the cash. He didn’t report this and when they did inventory it caught up with him. The sad part is he only stole around $40k and his salary was twice that. Regardless, he locked the store one day when he caught wind that they were on to him and skipped town. He was brought in at gunpoint. Honestly, this is very real stuff and not some government ploy to keep ammo out of our hands. I know our government is corrupt, you'll get no argument from me. However, take it from the inside track here, the USPS does indeed use/ need ammo for operations. Anyone that knows how far a thief or druggie will go can easily make sense of this. Adjam5
NY might be one of the ONLY areas I know of where ammo is in short supply. I regularly talk with my friends from Texas, Georgia and North Carolina and they have no problems finding ammo. 22's are a different story. But they can be found. I stopped in at Gander Mtn in Middletown,NY Sunday and they just about every caliber in stock. The prices weren't all that great, but ammo was in supply. My Walmart also in Monticello has/had lots of .223 and 9mm in stock. Even in large cans(720rd).

The walmart a mile south of me has large boxes of 5.56 right now. They also have 9mm, .40, .45, etc.. Long guns rounds were everywhere during rifle season. It may cost a few dollars more but it was not a HARD hit.. .22lr is the only thing that is hard to come by around here. Pretty much anything else can be found in one form or another. dbHunterNY
it's only 22lr... other stuff is available. it just takes a little time for it to get made and hit the selves. theirs 5.56 every where and in massive amounts now. so I think manufacturing time was devoted to supply that and thus any limited supply of the rest of the stuff. I will say unconstitutional laws like the NYSAFE Act cause shortages though. we can't order online anymore so you're stuck hitting the local stores so they can't get it and keep it on the shelves.
