bass rigging ??

I bought a couple boxes of ZOOM brand baits(70 piece kit $1) and had a question. How do you rig the fish shaped bait? Is it a jerkbait? There is a space in the belly for a hook tip to be protected, but how would I thread the bait. Maybe a jig??

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

thanks

Re: bass rigging ??

You'll need a large - 5/0 or so - offset shank hook and no weight. Thread the hook into the front of the bait for about 1/4 inch then push it out of the bottom. Slide the bait all of the way up to the eye of the hook then run the hook through the bait starting at the bottom (split) side. When you're finished, the bait should hang perfectly straight and the point of the exposed hook should be tight against the top/back portion of the bait. Throw it around brush or weeds, twitch it a few times then pause for a few seconds. Most hits will happen during the pause. Usually the hits a very light, just a tap or the bait may feel heavy like you're dragging a wad of moss. Jerk hard, you've got a lot of plastic in the bend of that hook!

Use it like Texan said. Make sure you watch you line when you pause it. A lot of times you will see your line jump when they hit it. I've had great luck with flukes in grassy lakes. Sometimes the bass will swirl on it. When they do that let em have in a second before you set the hook. Great Spring time bait. Good luck with it!
