Zizzer59
Ugh, hated watching that. I can understand shooting in the air or at the ground but not at the moose, especially when its walking away. I wouldn't have stuck around after he first charged though, I would come back for the snowmobile later, with a new set of underwear lol. elkoholic
As he was obviously the aggressor and was not acting in self defense, he should be prosecuted for multiple violations and both the weapon and snowmobile should be confiscated. Zizzer59
Couldn't agree more elkoholic.
Ravin R10 man
Had they been there earlier in the day, and had an encounter with the animal?, if so, they should have styed away. That is not a very well used trail, and certainly not a groomed public one. Video leaves me with more questions before I condemn the shooting. Frankly, after three charges, I think I would have shot too. Granted a warning shot may have been all he needed, we will never know now. Hope the animal was salvaged. Not all sleds have reverse and there might not have been a way around it. I don't think I would want to turn my back on it either. I do agree that a few warning shots might have been enough to make the moose leave.
Shaun_300
Yeah I saw that this morning, mixed feelings as well about it. I think I would have fired warning shots before killing the moose myself. But would have tried to avoid the situation a little more better in the first place. PotashRLS
I agree with trying to avoid the situation a little better. Given the deep snow and thick treeline, both the people and the moose stayed their ground. The moose was traveling the easiest path just like the people. The snowmobiler's first mistake was continuing to advance on the moose after he first stopped his sled early on in the video. They continued to advance on the moose assuming the moose would spook and run away. I do also agree that there likely was not enough room to turn the sleds around once the confrontation began. Also a pertinent variable is the snowmobiler's experience with the area and moose in general. Hard to armchair quarterback when not faced with the experience first hand. hoosierhunter
Unfortunately I would have shot her too except it would have been on the first charge. My life and livlihood isn't worth any wild animal IMO.
woolybear
Yup- dead moose for me too no doubt about it. Only difference is the video would only have been released to support my innocence in court if it came to that. I'd edit out the part where I'm picking moose burger out of my sleds track after the shooting, lol
