Thanks Tim...already bought mine online and printed them out. For those that haven't you can either call the toll free telephone number 1-800-918-2877 or go to the link below to buy and print out your tags online.

https://www.ks.wildlifelicense.com/start.php

Turkey tags are good for units 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 and I think we're hunting in unit 2. Only unit 4 is a draw unit & we aren't hunting that unit.

  • 3 weeks later...

I checked their website & the address is 1230 W. 570 Ave., McCune, KS. By checking the bing & GE aerial, that address sure looks like it's their lodge (barn converted to a lodge). Unless I find out otherwise, I'll just let the NAV in my Tahoe guide me to that address.

According to bing directions, it's about a 9 1/2 hour drive for me. I'll leave early Thursday morning, April 10th (~7:00) and figuring ~9.5 hours is correct I'll be there ~4:30. I'll probably check with Adam and see if there's anything extra I need to take with me...other than my turkey hunting gear. BTW...that's ~an hour S or so from where I used to bowhunt in Anderson Co. so I'm familiar with the drive.

I called Adam & got the old fashion directions------turn right at, go 1 mile turn left etc-----I don't have any of that new fangle stuff----even my box calls are 25 years old.

Adam we don't need anything---they have bedding, pillows, towels. They also have washer & dryer if we need to use that to dry out hunting clothes.

I'm planning on getting there in the early PM on the 10th.

New fangled...my Tahoe is a 2008! Getting my 3rd set of tires on it right now. The ones on it don't have enough tread left to risk putting on the road to get to KS. I have plenty of turkey calls in the 25 year old or older range too. Don't use the old ones in the woods anymore though. Most of the old ones aren't even made anymore. Ones like my Lynch Walnut Master box call (30 years old) that's dated on the striker lid. I'd hate to mess it up! Rarely use a box call anymore. Mainly use slate calls, diaphrams and my gobble call. I do have a Pittman box call I'll use for volume if it gets windy.

BTW...taking a popup blind and 2 folding chairs with me just in case in rains. Last year Tim got wet! I hate sitting in a blind but if it rains I sure will! Don't feel like I'm part of the surroundings inside any enclosed blind. Can't course the direction of sounds inside a blind either. Keeping my fingers crossed for nothing but blue sky and relatively calm days for KS while we're there. If the weather's great the blind will never leave the back of my Tahoe.

Way too early for me to trust a long range weather forecast Tim. Hope they're real close to being right though.

Hope the ticks aren't active there yet. Just in case...I'll be prepared for that too. Thermacell can't help with them. Shouldn't have to worry about chiggers until the ground heats up a lot.

I'm hoping that one of you will be bring a camera. I'd like a group photo with a row of gobblers in front us!! Plus I'm also hoping that one of you could post my photos in the turkey contest----I don't know how to do that either---LOL

I'm taking a camp stool also, I was thinking that Adam had blinds already in place.

I'm getting excited about the hunt-----looking forward to driving Dodge City------maybe I'll see Missy Kitty, Matt Dillon, Chester or Doc :)

I forgot to get my good digital camera out of my closet in Missouri & bring it home last time I was up there Bob. Senior moment with memory issues. It's right on the shelf next to my video camera I forgot to get too. I'll have my iPhone to take pics though. I'll also have my laptop with me. Their website says they have wifi.

Don't forget to print out your turkey contest entry form Bob. I won't have a printer with me. Gotta draw the line somewhere! I should have a tape in my turkey gear though.

Don't know if Adam has blinds or not. Haven't talked to him recently yet. Just figured they wouldn't since it's basically a do it yourself hunt. LOL visiting Dodge City Bob. Tell Festus I said howdy!

Since Tim mentioned a chance of rain on Sat. the 12th, checked & yep...my rain suit is right where I left it in MO. Bought a new RT camo rain suit yesterday afternoon at Bass Pro. Although I don't hold much faith in long range forecast, the 10 day forecast says 20% chance of rain on April 11th & 40% on April 12th. I'm prepared for it now...except for trying to think of whatever else I left up in MO that I might need in KS. Getting old overrated! Not sure why they call them the golden years.

I've got my rain gear packed also. I'm hoping that we will have a bunch of birds in hand----So if it rains on Sunday, we can have a good breakfast & then hit the road home to a Colorado merriams.

Me too bob...except I won't hit the road home to anything but a visit with my accountant for filing my tax returns and my parents returns. They'll get a refund...I will certainly have to send them more $$$$$$, including 1st quarter estimated taxes. I'll head to MO on the 16th to take care of some chores, scout, & then open their turkey season on the 21st...hopefully with a BANG!!!

Long range forecast changed slightly for McCune, KS...40% chance of rain on the 11th, 20% on the 12th and 100% on the 13th. Again...I don't have faith in forecast beyond a couple of days, especially this time of year.
