wtnhunt
Ran across some tracks i really am not sure they are from a dog, they are large and are in prime deer ground. Way too big to be bobcat. No claws on some of them, maybe a dog and the mud filled in the claws? Was a few tracks like this with no claws. Would be strange if so though because the deer tracks in the same mud are crisp at the points of the hooves. Deeper mud the claws show some. Pad does not look like a dogs to me though. Heard stories of big cats in the bottoms back here over the years but never seen any sign and never gotten any pics of any. Over 10 years ago a neighbor of ours says he had a boy turkey hunting on him that said he would never come back after seeing a big cat back on his place. After talking to my oldest daughter about this she told me her boyfriends neighbor about 7 miles from here has recently gotten trail cam pics of a cougar. stevebeilgard
don't be surprised to find a cougar. where there are deer, there will be cougars. a 5" spread is a big animal.
NS whitetail
baby Big Foot ? lol ........ a cougar is a possibility, there have been sightings of them here in Nova Scotia but no true evidence other than that
Maine Hntr
A bit tough to see the pad like you say but it sure looks like some long sharp nails cutting through the mud.
535hunter
Heard through the grape vine wolves are headed east..... I wouldn't claws would be visible if it were at cat. I'm not sure tho. Anyone around you have a German shepherd? I got confused over a track in a sand pit last summer. Eventually figured out it was a pet. wtnhunt
Tracks? Evidently there have been sightings all around us and others seeing similar tracks, closest in the bottoms back behind us less than 4 miles from us. Our wildlife folks rule out the possibility of cat making it east of the Mississippi river, they claim it would be almost impossible for a cat to make it across the river. Honestly hope they are right, don't like the idea of a big cat that close to my pastures and especially not to my house.
Ravin R10 man
Yup looks like a cat rack to me....cats can swim..they also are smart enough to cross train tressles or bridge
bowhunter97
I'd say cat. Got pictures over the summer last year of a panther that wasn't collared. Havent ever seen one around here until then.
redkneck
My guess is a big dog, great dane, etc. Hard to believe in large cats anymore down here, too many game cams. Even the few black bears that stray down this way are picked up on cams and posted again and again. There are some big footed dogs that can easily leave a 5" track. wtnhunt
Dunno about the states claims, from what i have read there are confirmed cases this side of the river in Illinois and Mo. Shawnee national forest is maybe a hundred or so miles north of us. Supposedly there are some following the river southward. That in mind possibility is there, river channel back here does dump into the MS. Cats cover a lot of ground hope if in fact that is what left the prints that it moves on. Biggest dog i know of running loose around here is a lab, probably 75-80 lbs.
Ravin R10 man
William put game cam down there... We just had a "Bigfoot" sighting 1 mile east of here....no track pics in the snow as of yet... but a few people have come out and said they have seen it too. BCP Report; Caller reported he was driving a semi full of wood pulp for Xcel Energy, north bound on Highway 63 towards Ashland. He stated he saw an eight–nine foot male covered in hair walking along the side of the highway. Officer reported no Sasquatch or anything resembling one was located. Tominator
Sure looks like a cat track to me William. I know with the freeze and thaw cycles we get up here, tracks tend to "grow" as they age, but that first one looks pretty fresh. Set your camera out in that area. wtnhunt
These tracks were pretty fresh. This is the area near the water where i used to run a camera year round. I got tons of pics of yotes and bobcats in that area. Unfortunately that camera was one of the ones that was ruined with floods a few years back. I will get a camera down there as soon as i can. dbHunterNY
I didn't think cat tracks leave claw marks at all. I'm thinking a big domestic dog. don't think wolves would make it out that far without being seen.
