Ultradog
My bride and I went up to our land for the first time since deer hunting to plow the gardens for my cousins and check things out after the long winter. I turned over one of my deer plots too, then disced it. We'll be going back up in a couple of weeks to disc it again and put the seed in. My little Ford fired right up and ran flawlessly even after sitting in the shed all winter. It's sporting new front bumper weights this year which sure helped to keep the front end planted better. It's fun to get away from the city once in a while and just being up there makes you start thinking about the hunt this fall.
wtnhunt
Nice looking soil there Jerry, looks almost black. About time to do some bush hogging here, already mowed our clover plots.

dogdoc
man that is some dark soil. looking good. How is your deer numbers? Lots of controversy going on right now in MN with the hunters and the DNR. Lots of unhappy hunters as deer numbers have fallen drastically in some regions of the state. todd
Ultradog
DogDoc, Actually... I used my cell phone on that first photo and the color is off so it looks dark. That plot is in a mined out gravel pit so most of the soil is rather poor. The one area I put into a plot must have had some top soil pushed there with a dozer years ago but it's not as dark as it looks. I haven't heard much about our deer numbers. I just know they are down after the tough winter. It was only 3 seasons ago we had hunter's choice - take either a buck or doe. I suspect this fall we'll be back to doe permits and a lottery again which has been the norm around there most years since the 70s when I started hunting.
