redkneck
But I'm trying. Been running at least 8 miles a week, eating better too. Lost fifteen pounds last two months, got about ten more to get off. The last ones may have to be surgically removed. May donate a kidney. I hate running too! wtnhunt
Tuff being a fat boy Good luck with it John. Need to drop a little here too. Chiropractor neighbor keeps telling me running unless it is on soft surface is bad for the joints. Says better to walk, but unless trying to follow Steve Beilgard up rock shale or toting a kid on my shoulders in summer heat and humidity walking never gets heart rate up enough for me. Seems to be a few new added lbs each year here that are not as easy to shed. Summer weight vs winter weight for me still in my mid 40's will vary 15-20 lbs. redkneck
Yeah running is bad on the joints. I'm surprised shin splints haven't sidelined me but I've managed to stay injury free so far. I bought focus t25 thinking I could spare 25 minutes a day to get in shape, I only made it about six minutes in before my heart have out. That was 8 weeks ago. Not sure how far I can get into it now but will soon give it another go. I started out taking 15 minutes to go a mile but now I can run it in ten, I know that's pathetic but I'm short and stocky and never was much of a runner even as a kid. We'll see how things progress. wtnhunt
Shin splints aren't much fun, had a little trouble with them in high school. Running stadiums played a role. Suicides did not help much either. Hear my middle daughter talk about having to walk a mile in gym class in less than 15 minutes and think to myself that is not a very fast pace. High school i can remember doing 3+ miles every day before practice and we had to do it in under 22 minutes. Been considering a treadmill, neighbor says a bike is a much better option. No idea what i could do a mile in now, was consistently under 5 minutes in high school and could run forever back then, was never a sprinter though. Cannot run 100 yards without getting winded these days. Probably have a coronary if i tried to push it on a mile now, especially carrying around the extra weight. Ravin R10 man
used to run cross country in high school, my freshman year '73 was able to do 3 miles in well under 20 min nowdays, I would have to do it this way;
redkneck
Well I can't run two in under twenty, and I sure wasn't close to five in school either, more like 8 probably lol. Never was a runner, don't guess I ever will be. Just trying to keep the heart rate up.
stevebeilgard
at least you are trying, and seem to be on the right track. good luck.
dbHunterNY
My dad used a bike with good results. Running or swimming is definitely good and better on joints. tread mill down stairs gets limited use. they work though. Jon Brunson lost a boat load of weight and has gotten his health and old physique back in order. I'm sure you can find a video online somewhere. Gator
I've been told that I'm not in shape, my response that "pear" is a shape....... But on the more serious side, I am starting to feel my age a lot more doing the physical work that I do
redkneck
Good to see you on Jason. I'm still at it, down twenty pounds, need to shed about ten more I think.
elkoholic
If you think it is tough getting in shape now, just wait another 20 years. The good thing about getting the weight to an acceptable point being the health benefits and overall reduction in the wear and tear on the body. Less chance of having lower extremity (hip, knee, and ankle) problems makes aging a little less harsh. Hunting is certainly more enjoyable when you're not on the verge of having a MI or struggling for the next breath. Do some weight training too. Lean muscle mass burns more calories per day and helps getting that trophy out of the woods. Keep up the good work, it will pay dividends down the road. NS whitetail
I just dropped 19 lbs in the last 16 days of May. We was out on the ocean 29 out of 31 days in May hauling lobster gear. After day after day of working my butt off, the extra little flab I put on in the past winter just dropped off of me like crazy, I could feel / see the difference every day those few weeks, pants that I could not button now need a belt to keep them up lol. I am at 202 lbs now.
Shaun_300
That's something I've never had to worry about, I've always been slim. I usually vary between 170 and 185lbs, Which is thin for 6'4". The way I eat though I don't think I'd be this thin if I didn't have a physically demanding job and lifestyle!
1BigOX
Lose the weight now man. I went in for my annual physical and found out I am now a Type 2 diabetic. At least I do not have to be on insulin. Oral medication, diet, and exercise. Tough part is I am out of work while my meds get straightened out. Unpaid leave for a month, then I need a waiver to go back to work. I am young enough to make the change and cure it, but I have to battle now. fly
I'm where you are John - need to drop another 10 and those ten are the ones that just will not stay off! I'll eat right, rock climb, and run to get 3 of the 10 off. Then something like free pizza day at work happens and the 3 pounds I worked for are right back. The only time I was ever able to stay at my ideal weight (2 years ago) is when I ran every other day training for the tough mudder. I ran my first 5K during this time period in a little over 24 minutes. Then cold weather hit and deer season ended. I'm hoping to see 185 by this fall. Good luck staying on the wagon.
wtnhunt
Seems this year been spiraling downwards healthwise since that stupid cat bit me. Been to the Dr more times this year already than probably the last 3 or 4 combined. Eating better, drinking more water, and still seem to be stuck. Really need to drop some from the gut. Blood pressure been a bit of an issue lately, told the Dr sounded like a good excuse to eat more deer meat. About the only "fast food" i will eat. jbeck
I am with ya brother, I avoid running because of the shin splints. I do walk the golf course and carry my bag, that is about 5 miles so looking at 15 miles a week. firewood help through the winter but I did pack on about 8 lbs this winter and am getting it off slowly.
