rear tire keeps blowing

Recommended Posts

The car 1993 chevy caprice classic , stock 15 inch rims .

the PROBLEM : The left side rear tire blew big time to where a hand sized chunck of thread came off first then a little while later the tire finally blew , this happened back in april then today the exact same thing happened .

the TIRES : garage kept and used with 95 % thread left ( bought from used tire shop . Never had this happen before until this past April and today .

what might be causing this problem ?? my guess is dry rotted , but if thats the case why almost 3 months later ?

Tires only blow for one reason and that is low air pressure. Once the tire starts to heat up they will just let go with out warning. Are the wheels on the car aluminum? They tend to have bead leaks. Also check the DOT # on the side of the tire. The last four numbers on the tire will tell you the week and year it was made. Used tires are a crap shoot because you can't tell the shape of the tire by just looking at it.

  • 2 weeks later...

the tire pressure was at 32 psi , max pressure for the tire was 35 psi .

exhaust is a little behind the tire , i have duel exhaust , so if 1 side blew wouldn't the other tire blow eventually ?

i have notice that once in a while the left side brakes lock up when i come to a stop , which is the side that blows the tire

Seeing any abnormal wear before they blow?

Got a weird situation with my 3/4 ton truck. Back tires wearing in the middles, looks like they are overinflated, but they are not. About all i can figure is they are wearing from slippage on our gravel drive. Our 18 year old makes whoop de doos coming up the hill. Just cannot seem to make her understand not to press the gas when the tires slip.

Check the brakes on the left rear. They may be "dragging" and overheating the drum which heats the tire eventually. Drive it around a little and reach around the right rear wheel to the brake drum and feel it. Then carefully and quickly do the same with the left rear. It may be real hot so be fast. If it is really hot something is causing the brakes to drag on the left side and needs fixed.
