wtnhunt
Earlier last week we had flooding, picked up about 6 inches of rain in one day. Then yesterday afternoon got pretty nasty. Unconfirmed reports of tornadoes that tracked practically right over us. Sirens went off 3 times while i was outside working in the yard. Just before dark had 80+mph straight line winds. Know i have one tree snapped on fence but the fence did not look to be down. Limbs down all over. Think i am about ready to give up trying to grow corn in a garden. Got t posts up and electric fence up yesterday afternoon as it started raining on me. I just tied up tomato plants Friday, otherwise we probably would have lost them. All pepper plants laid over, maybe the ground being soft will let us stand them back up. Several corn stalks snapped but most blown over. Last time this happened had very poor results and it was not this bad. Should have had fresh sweet corn for the 4th and hoped to have some to share with a disabled neighbor who is no longer able to grow his own. Had just started to see a few tassels, dunno that we will get much. Not heard yet of any significant damage, hopefully there was nothing more than limbs and trees down. Ravin R10 man
hope it isn't a total loss Will, we have a local that sells the best you have ever tasted. had wind damage one year,(field corn),.. laid it almost flat, it did goose neck, but still had to harvest it from downwind direction. redkneck
That stinks William. Corn is a booger sometimes. Between the high cost of seed corn, diesel fuel, coons, crows, weather, replanting etc it's better to me to just go buy it lol. Sure is good to have fresh corn though! Rhino
That's a bummer William. Talked to our neighbor in MO the other day. They had 70mph winds up there and according to the rain gauge they got a little over 4". Not sure if there was any damage to our farmer's corn crop or not. I know about 5 or 6 trees we planted were blown over.
elkoholic
A real shame about the garden. I just wish we could grow a garden like that, but even if we could the deer would probably eat it before it was ready to pick. Hopefully, you will still get some edible results. wtnhunt
Yep Dave, we have to keep an electric fence up around the garden to keep from losing corn. Biggest problem is not typically the deer but rather the raccoons. Squirrels been becoming more of an issue lately too. Flood warnings continuing on today. Know one corn field just one property over from us went completely under moving water and stayed for some time. Noticed about an acre of that field yesterday that looked dead, or at least the stalks were covered with mud.
Shaun_300
Wow that's too bad about the garden William. It sounds like you're lucky you didn't lose more than that. We're in the middle of a downpour, started this morning. Forecasting for 80mm which is close to 4 inches. No wind or storms though just lots of rain!
