wtnhunt
Sad situation. To think how many gave up so much for things there to be to the current state. Seems things are worse in that part of the world now when obama took office. So much for his self touted diplomatic skills. Some warned this would happen with leaving too early, obama too dense to listen. He was too concerned with his timeline. Thoughts?
Ravin R10 man
he couldn't organize his way out of a wet paper bag..what do you expect from a guy who had NO experience? Islam's goal is to control the world, what we did over there is like trying to hold back the tide. The U.S. cleaned it up pretty darn fast, and had things under control. Obamma just blew up the dam by pulling out, here come the insurgents. http://thehill.com/policy/defense/209266-mccain-gets-testy-on-morning-joe Edited June 14, 2014 by Mathews XT Man
dbHunterNY
I think US armed forces are fighting a fight that can't be won in a lifetime. sure things can improve but the situation is hard pressed to change. when those over there realize how it's gotten worse maybe they will become a little more organized. when you're in that deep keeping everything in check throughout an entire county is impossible to do. a timeline shouldn't have dictated how to pull out forces. the situation should dictate things. bad threats leeching back into peaceful areas is inevitable though. I mean there was little to nothing mentioned about what their situation is and what they plan to do along with our withdrawal support. it was just yea I'm Obama and I'm deciding to make our troops leave. Rhino
My thoughts? This could end up being far worse than most imagine. Think about it! What happens if al queda ends up controlling the country? Well...one thing is they would virtually have unlimited resources in $ from the country's oil production to fund any terrorist action they choose to do. With that amount of $, how many radical mid-eastern governments that hate us will side with them? Could this be the spark that leads to a large scale war? All unknowns now but all simply because our administration refused to listen and wouldn't consider leaving a residual force in place to help keep the nation stable like we have in Japan, Germany, and Korea. wtnhunt
That is exactly right Al. Putting aside the debate on whether or not we ever should have been there in the first place, it was pretty clear that this admin was warned that leaving under a timeline rather than when the country was really able to stand on its own that things would get out of hand. With so much else going on in the region a stable iraq would have been worth keeping enough residual force there to maintain, now instead we have quite a mess. Heard some media speculation that suggested we might help Iran in order to get things under control. Sounds pretty insane and only goes to show just how unstable things must be for that to be any kind of consideration.
