Hunting Kentucky this year

A buddy of mine that lives here in IL had been looking for land and after a year wasn't finding anything reasonable in IL so he bought 100 acres near Land Between the Lakes. I've been helping him set up food plots and we have 10 stands set up. Trail cameras are out so on the next trip we will see what made it through the winter. Ky bow season opens in September which is right around the corner. I also got drawn for a week hunt in a good area here in IL so I'm expecting this year to be a good one.

Debating on also applying for a Land Between the Lakes permit. Anyone ever hunted there? Worth it?

Tennessee side of lbl is about an hour from us. A LOT of people hunt it on this side Frank. Some good deer do come from lbl every year, that said only time i might consider there on the public ground would be the early seasons.

A little further east around the base there is a large amount of govt land that is fenced, at least along highway 79. Very good area for deer. Don't know what is involved in getting in on hunting that ground.

KY does not have the same "management" approach this state does, should be better age class deer on the KY side around lbl probably better the further you get from the state line.

Sounds like you should have a great season! Kentucky has produced some nice bucks the last few years. Illinois land is crazy expensive, especially around the metro east. I've been looking to buy a small patch of ground myself, but will probably wait another few years until the kids are a little older.

Where did you get drawn for the week hunt? My cousin got drawn for Horseshoe a few years ago and said it was the best bowhunting he's ever experienced. He's applied ever since but hasn't got drawn again yet.
