SouthGaHuntingandOutdoors
Has anyone here made their own trail camera? I've been thinking about it for a few weeks now and was wondering what kind of difficulties come along with this type of project.
wtnhunt
Yep. Built four of them. Did not really have any problems with putting together my builds.
hoosierhunter
Unless they make IR builds I'd stay away. Typically but not always the flash spooks deer. A herd can be conditioned to them, but it takes quite some time.
wtnhunt
The ir debate goes on. Homebrews can be built with ir. Mine are all flash cameras. Flash setups were used for a very long time by a lot of hunters and biologists and with success. Any camera can be setup where a flash will not be directly in the deer eyes. Ways around being to the point of being offensive. Some deer clearly avoid cameras(i have watched them), some just don't care. Some seem to be concerned with the little click some cams make and some will see any little led's and steer clear. I got probably over a hundred pics in 2009 of a mature buck that kept coming back around 4 different flash cams on my property and did not seem to bother him a bit. These days the biggest question i would look at when determining whether or not to get into building your own is the cost factor. It will cost more to build one than to buy a decent camera. Some board manufacturers have quit selling. I used yeti and pix for mine. I really like the yeti boards.
SouthGaHuntingandOutdoors
I've got an old digital camera I was gonna use for the majority of the parts, I just don't know where to begin. It's a Canon if that helps.

Turkeygirl
I have 3 homebrews, all whiteflash, flash does not seem to bother the deer at all! Got them all from builders on archerytalk. Alot of the builders seem to use Sony cameras.
wtnhunt
Yep, all the ones I have built are with sony cams. The p41 and p32.
