Deer contest sign-ups

You sure? I was thinking it was usually around mid-August? I can't get anything to come up with the search function so I couldn't find last year's threads. I know lots of states are in full swing at mid-sept. idk, we'll see how it goes :)

Last year it was started on August 14th. Posted a link to last year's rules in my entry post for you John. Just thought I'd tell you here if you haven't seen it in the entry tread. Yep...search is useless right now.

Man the days of 90 guys signed up must be gone. Although we had a ton of no shows when it was that big.

Yep...I seem to recall there being between 15 & 20 teams in the old days. Agree...most teams had no shows back then but we still have a few now too. We also had issues with entries never getting posted by some teammates and more issues with some entries that were posted too.

I guess some old forum members that deer hunt and don't show up much in here anymore are doing their own contest or whatever some way on facebook, twitter, or local hunting forums. Local state hunting forums usually get more action than we do. Part of that is close buddies, neighbors, hunting partners, etc. probably make up most of the inner circle of those forums . I know one here in MS that has some odd rules in their contest...one being only deer killed in the state can count. Almost makes it sound like non-residents & residents that enjoy hunting in other states aren't as welcome. In their contest they get extra points for every doe they kill too. A member in a club participating in DMAP can legally kill more does than the state bag limit on does. I recall another odd rule about getting extra points if you had trail cam pics of the deer. Not everyone can afford trail cameras and only a few can afford more than 3 or 4. Big advantage for hunters that can afford to run over 5...like us Pat. Another grey area around that rule is the successful hunter could use trail cam pics of his deer that someone else got. Who would know if the hunter who killed the buck got the pics himself or not? I prefer the K.I.S.S. rules method.

Anyway...I'll kick back, relax, & enjoy our smaller crew around the deer hunter's campfire here. Looking forward to sharing deer tales with the forum participants.

Participation here seems to have been going down steadily over the last few years. When I started here I would check in a few times a day and there were always new posts & replies. Now I could check in once a week and really not miss much. It might just be me, but since the "upgrade" it seems to be even worse. Oh well, I'm in weather we have 3 teams or 12 teams. I always look forward to the deer contest.
