wtnhunt Posted August 18, 2014 Report Share Posted August 18, 2014 One of the last things Christina, our oldest, said to me before we left her at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville Saturday evening. At the opposite end of the state a little over 300 miles from home, she followed us in her car, took almost 6 hours for us to get to the campus from our house Saturday. She had not driven on the interstate before so this trip was an experience for her. She finished out her high school as a distinguished honor student with a 3.9.. something gpa. AP calculus in her senior year dropped her gpa and class ranking, but she passed the AP exam and got college credit for that class so she will not have to take calculus again. She got a 31 on her ACT which put her with some impressive scholarships and in the chancellors's honors program. She opted to not continue band, she had a rather large scholarship, over $40,000 for another school just for band, but that school does not have much of an ag program. Her major is in wildlife management and fisheries, and UTK has a very good program which should help lead her into her career goal of working for the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency as a game warden. Could not be any more proud. Wife was teared up pretty good in all the pics, not going to post any of those without asking her first. My wife and I move my daughter in tomorrow, but she's going to The Ohio State University, which is only about 30 minutes from home, and she's our 2nd child to leave for college. She will get to work check stations for deer and bear. A matter of time before she starts teaching me what she is learning. Congrats mom and dad. My wife and I move my daughter in tomorrow, but she's going to The Ohio State University, which is only about 30 minutes from home, and she's our 2nd child to leave for college. Watching the first go off to college is a bit tough, so hang in there. Wish she would have picked the closer UT school, their ag program is every bit as good. I was wanting to work for the state here in Oklahoma, then I got an interview with the Corps of Engineers for a Natural Resource Specialist. It's an awesome gig! The best of both worlds, biologist and Park Ranger. Except we're not certified to carry, which AOK with me, we just call the deputy. The biggest perk, is the pay, we make more than Gamewardens, and don't even have to carry a gun! Katie informed us the other day that she will be rowing 8-man (woman) crew (novice class) for The Ohio State University. Remember that little girl, that ran round my back yard with your little girl, way back when? Yeah, varsity athlete for the largest university in the nation, lol. I dug up the one of you and I when you visited. The date on that was July 5, 2004. I don't remember who took that picture. My daughter's band director asked her to be field commander at the end of her sophomore year, so she didn't march junior or senior year. She continued to play in the concert band where her director asked her to play the French horn, so she did. She did a lot for that guy, lol. Katie has always been one to try new things. She ran cross country, track, swam, concert band, marching band and a few other things, but she never latched on to one thing. Jack of all trades, master of none I guess. That's why I'm a little leery on this rowing thing. I've seen her start and experience a lot of things, but never work really hard on one thing.
