hoytman62
What is meant by not over hunting your tree stand? Thanks!
hoosierhunter
Educating the deer to your presence in an area. This happens from many factors: hunting with the incorrect wind, getting busted on stand, getting busted going to and from the stand, etc.
inhuntr
yes if you get busted in the stand especially by a doe you want to wait a wile before hunting there again

Rhino
I agree with the others, except...when the chase phase of the rut is on, you can afford to get away with hunting a particular stand more than other times during the season. Outside of that phase of the rut, I tend to be conservative and prefer letting a stand rest at least 4 or 5 days before hunting it again...usually longer. That's one reason I like to have as many stand options as possible for different winds so I'm not tempted to overhunt one.
abear491
Over hunting a stand is sometimes unavoidable, but I do agree that trying to hunt the winds or the number times you hunt it help. I know I have a stand that really no matter what the wind is I am going to be in trouble if a deer comes that way. I have seen deer come each an everyway from that stand, but on the over hunting part after I shoot one out of that stand I try to stay away from hit at least a week. I remember when I was younger that I shot at a 8 pointer in pre dawn darkness I nicked him an the next morning I killed him.

It's extremely tough for most guys to devote the extra time to getting beyond this point. I am positive if a hunter commits to never breaking the wind rule on a stand their big deer sightings will skyrocket. The easiest way to do this is making sure you have at least one stand for each wind direction and multiple stands for the predominate wind in your area. wtnhunt
Good answers given. Read something somewhere before about how your scent profile can build up and linger in a stand from hunting it too much. Don't know how true that is. Would seem to me if you were cautious about your scent what little you might leave behind would dissipate. Me personally in our gun seasons depending on what is going on i may hunt the same stand i killed a deer from the day prior or for several days. You get a hot doe or two around the bucks are gonna be around. Also helps if you have an easy to get to stand where you are at lesser risk of getting busted you can get away with a little more. Tominator
I really try to never hunt the same stand 3 days in a row. If you continually put your scent in the area, and continually bust deer walking in and out of the stand, it won't take long until you don't see deer on a continual basis.
