hoosierhunter
Anyone else hunt yesterday? My dad and I went for a morning hunt and took 15 birds. They were flying sporadic and we gave up at 11am. We hunted a gravel pit and my lab thought he'd have fun and be a mountain goat to start. Well that caught up with him once I decided to hunt from up there and he had to go down every time to retrieve. I'm pretty sure he is still sleeping it off. Rhino
Didn't even cross my mind dove season opened Pat. Went to look at a new hunting club Sunday afternoon in MS. Yep...still trying to find the right one in the right area to hunt when I'm not hunting in MO.
hoosierhunter
Al- how long is the trip to MO? I think it would be tough to get motivated to hunt an area that didn't hold the caliber of deer that MO has.
Tominator
Buddy and I got out. He limited, I got 12. My plan was to limit later in the day with my son, but I wasn't feeling too good after dinner. Back at it again Saturday, hopefully by then we will have cooler temps and less humidity. It was brutal after 9 o'clock or so.

Pat...depending on traffic and construction slow down areas, anywhere from 9 1/2 to 10 hours. Very doubtful I'd spend much time in MS deer hunting before late November. Gotta remember, the rut is over in MO before it even starts cranking up in MS. Rutting activity doesn't start cranking up in the area of MS I'm looking at until ~Dec. 20th and usually peaks between Christmas & New Years. The place I'm looking at has better potential to grow better, rack size mature bucks than the place I used to hunt. Still though...it won't compare to the ability to hold the numbers of really big ones, or anything close to the upper end potential like MO or anywhere in the mid-west. Also...turkey season opens on 3/15 in MS. My 1st turkey hunt last year was the KS hunt with Tim in mid April. MO turkey season opened a week later and it's only 3 weeks long. I'd get a 30 day head start in MS before those seasons opened.

hoosierhunter
Dad and I went out again last night and shot our limits in 90 minutes! Heck of a hunt. I went on a little heater hitting 9 in a row. My lab got such a workout he wore one of his pads raw.
Tominator
Buddy and I limited by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Big cold front coming through Wednesday, so that one with the one we just got, I'm hoping we have a ton of birds come Saturday.
