OKstate
I was checking my trail cam photos yesterday and noticed that one of the older bucks on our place has already shed all of his velvet. Has anyone else started seeing "hard" antlers yet? I am hunting central Oklahoma.

OKstate
It seems like they usually start rubbing here in the first couple weeks of September, but usually I will see a few of the younger deer clean before the bigger bucks. wtnhunt
Nope, not here. Usually mid September they start shedding velvet. Occasionally see some little ones still in velvet in our early archery season, end of September beginning of October.
hoosierhunter
I have a 5.5 year old that was completely cleaned up on August 28th when I glassed him from the road.
Rhino
From trail cam pics the MO bucks where we hunt in the NE part of the state shed velvet from late August through early Sept. In MS it's usually a couple of weeks later than that. I've only killed 1 mature buck bowhunting in MS that was still in velvet & can probably count on 1 hand the number of mature bucks I've seen in velvet after the season opened in MS on 10/1. I've never seen or even caught any mature bucks in velvet on trail cams after the MO season opened, which is on 9/15.
