colorado bob
Maybe it's age, maybe it's boredom but I've change scopes on my 30/06. It had a Leupold VarX-III 2.5x8 for the past 30 years. Looks like it a little dark for my eyes. I put on it a straight 6X Redfield with a 40MM lense. It's made in Denver an older model. with friction adjustments, but it's bright & clear. I sighted it in today. 3 shot group-----2 touching dead center & the 3rd about 1/2" to the right @ 100 yards. That's minute of elk to me. I've thought of trying to raise it a couple of inches-------but it's right on----leave good enough alone. wtnhunt
Guess if i was going to go to a fixed power on one of my rifles something comparable in power would probably be my choice too. My 3-9 scope on my .270 stays between 5 and 6.
silvertip_co
I just did something similar with my 270. After having used a 4-16x40 on several rifles with good to great results, I realized I only used it mostly on 6x. So I swapped it for an old model Bushnell 3-9x32 which was 8oz lighter and seemed 2x brighter. It shoots cloverleafs at 100 w 3 different ammo brands and I hit the 12" gong at 300y 3/3 times. Some times the old ways is the good ways. If I was going to stick w a straight power I'd do as you did and go with 6x for its pure versatility. Good luck on the elks. BeanMan
I guess I'm still stuck on my 3-9 Burris Fullfield II. They used to be made in Colorado a long time ago.
