fly
Hoosier, I seriously thought this deer was going to be over 200 lbs, but the scale at the taxidermist shop only read 180 lbs. He said the reliability was in question. I'll put the story and pics in the deer hunting room. Here's one just for Team First Blood!

fly
Thanks everyone. If you read back to last week you can now see why I was up at 2am on the opening day of my 7 day hunt. Funny how at 200 yards this 12 pointer looked like a 300 pound 170 inch beast! The reality of it was that he weighed 180 pounds field dressed (230 live weight) and green scored about 150 non-typical inches. It doesn't matter as I'm still waking up each morning thinking about that magical morning. Sharing it with all of you has just made it that much more special. Now, it's time to look for the unicorn buck as I still have an IL buck tag for IL and one for KY.

Hearing the story makes you feel like you were there. Good luck with KY and IL. I'm headed out tonight in the storm. All I know is I can't tag one at home! Turkeygirl
Awesome job on all the deer team and fly, what a beauty!! I am still trying for a buck here. Cold this AM with 30 degrees and snow, saw nothing, but it was breezy. Sun is out now, going to try a ground blind on state land I built and see whats going on there. hoosierhunter
Congrats bb! I had an awesome last two days. I didn't draw my bow, but great encounters both nights. Last night was 4 bucks with the biggest being a 130 3.5 year old 10. He's on my pass list but fun to see. Tonight also brought 2 3.5 year olds. One being a 125 inch 8 that was at a mere 10 yards for about 5 minutes. The second was a low 130's 10. I also had a mature 8 cruise out of range although I would not have shot him right now given what this property holds.
hoosierhunter
I'm moving in the right direction for size. I had the double main beam 10 come in tonight at 26 yards. My scorer buddy thinks he goes mid 40's or better. I think he's potentially 3.5 so I let him walk. It was a fun encounter for sure. Now I just need my known shooters to read the script all these others are reading!

fly
Congratulations on the doe bbarcheryhunter and good luck to you on state ground Ruth. Hoosier, you keep at it and the pay off will come. There is a nice 8 point (2.5 year old 115 inch) that has moved into the private ground area I hunt but I have not seen or got a single picture in over 2 months of the unicorn buck. I'm headed to another public ground draw area tomorrow (not as good as the first place as it was hit hard by EHD a couple years ago). I'll only hunt the area a couple days as I'm headed to KY Friday for the rifle opener this Saturday. The next 2 weeks are my favorite weeks of the year to hunt. Like a sunset - they come and leave quick so enjoy every minute!
