I finally had a chance to get in a stand and unfortunately didn't have an opportunity to let any arrows fly. I did get a nice wake up call when I was headed into the barn to get the ATV. Hopefully you guys don't run in to any of these fellows in the woods!!!

OH MAN! I would have filled my pants for sure!!

Is that an old snake? We don't have rattlers up here in northern NY.

Yeah, that snake has been around for a while. This is only the second year we have started seeing rattlers on our place.... before that we never had any issues.

I finally made it to the stand over the past couple days, but the action was really slow and the only movement I saw, was a small buck at first light and a doe that snuck up behind me and didn't stick around for very long. There is supposed to be some cooler weather headed this way, so hopefully it will get the bigger boys up and about. Good luck to everyone else!

I spent this past weekend putting up 6 stands and moved another one at the new club in MS and did a little more scouting. Trying to get better prepared to hunt there when the cooler air starts arriving. Had a surprise on 1 camera real close to where my old hunting buddy killed a doe 2 weekends ago. Been getting and keeping tabs on a buck in that area that a new young friend of mine is fired up about. Here's a few pics from Friday with the surprise arrival right at last light.

My young buddy named this buck Side Action..he has 2 kickers off his right G2

About the time a hunter would be climbing out of the stand there (~25 yards away) this guy walks in.

Bears are common for some of you but they are endangered in MS and protected. This is the 1st one I've ever gotten on a cam in MS. Glad nobody was hunting that stand Friday afternoon. If someone had...chances are their shorts would have been soiled. Another thing to think about walking around in the dark down here. I might have to start using a flashlight again in MS going to/from a stand.

Man I hate snakes. 4 or 5 years ago while hanging stand in August I stepped around a tree while putting up climbing sticks and my left foot was a 12 - 18 inches a away from a big rattler. He was coiled up but wasn't rattling or anything. Thankfully he wasn't aggressive because I was more than close enough to get bit. Needless to say we took care of him. Haven't seen much lately, but the young bucks are starting to be seen a lot. Got a couple good bucks on our cams last week. This cold front should hopefully get them on their feet. Good luck everyone!

I finally get to hunt this new land tomorrow morning and evening. A buddy of mine owns it. Has about 15 stands on 260 acres. He had a biologist come in and do a survey. The guy is so good at it he pointed it down to the tree that the stands need to be in and why they need to be there, and what wind you need to hunt it on. Thought that was pretty neat! Going to sit a stand in the morning and if don't produce we are moving it. Plus hanging another stand tomorrow and making some new walking trails with the mule. So it's going to be great day all in all! Hope everyone is getting out on the big boys. Rut is almost full swing here in Southern Illinois.

Congratulations NS whitetail...hate to hear about your flood problems though.

Just got home from playing guide for 2 friends on our place in MO. Rutting activity heated up fast. Lots of cruising and chasing going on. One guy missed a big one...the other had one close but no clear shot. I whacked a doe...obviously that's no help for our team...it is for management purposes and groceries though. I'm heading back on the 14th since my next buck tag is good on the 15th. Hope the rutting action is still on like it was the past 7 or so days when I get back there.
