Just wanted to say Hi to everybody, was on here a lot 5 or 6 years ago, still try to drop by and check out things every now and again. my little guy is getting big, he is 6 years old now and wants to join dad hunting. We got out once coyote hunting last year. He wants to deer hunt with me this year. I worry that he might be too young to see me shoot a deer, etc. He is a sensitive kid, and I don't want to turn him off hunting by doing the wrong thing. Any advice from parents would be great.

Here is pick of the two of us shooting our "crossbows"! He loves the outdoors, and camping, it will be fun to enjoy time together hunting as well.

Welcome back! I started taking my son with me when he was 4...in ground blinds & shooting houses. Now he's 27. When they are young they won't sit long. Sometimes he'd take a nap. Other times when he got restless we'd do some walking around with me showing him deer sign and anything else I could show him that added to his woodsmanship skills. The main thing is to make it an enjoyable experience for him even if it doesn't pan out to be what you'd call a serious hunt. BTW...expect to fell like a pack mule with stuff you'll have to carry for him.

Started taking jr last year, he was 3. Like rhino stated there wasnt much hunting done. We would go in the woods late morning and late evening. Often he would nap or be rustling about. I believe at the young age its more about being with dad doing guy stuff than the actual hunting part. He knows the season is fast approaching and he cant wait. He turned 4 last weekend and almost all the clothes he got was camo.
