wtnhunt
Things came together this weekend for what should have been great. Cold front pushed in, corn behind us came out, deer should have been moving real well. I get to my stand Saturday afternoon and the wind is perfect and is dying down. Not long after getting in the stand i hear a dog baying. Sounded like a beagle. Dog gets farther away and then close again. Goes on for quite a while. About 45 minutes before sunset the stupid dog is on our property in the woods behind me. I am sitting a stand over a clover plot. I hear a deer take off down behind me, little doe. It circles around in front and heads towards my pasture with our cows. The dog follows the deer tracking it. About 10 minutes later a little buck comes out of the woods about 200 yards away looking around and comes towards me. Still hearing the dog. Buck goes in where the doe came out of. Little more time goes by and the deer busts out across the field. Dog got on his tracks then got confused and following some other tracks back down behind me. Buck goes same direction as the doe. Dog must have circled back around and bumped the buck again, the buck comes back out of where he went in and shoots across the field and into the woods. The dog can physically see the deer at this point but rather than chase it the dog gets on the deers tracks going the wrong way coming towards me getting about 45 yards away and never stopping with its nose to the ground. Dog ended up back behind me again and could hear it until i got down and could still hear it while I was walking back. Guess it must have run everything off our property over night. Saw nothing Sunday morning, conditions were as perfect as they get here for bowhunting. Owner of that dog needs .......... Hear so many times how these dog owners train their dogs not to chase deer, obviously they don't have to chase a deer to totally screw up the hunting. Rhino
That is a BIG bummer! Surprised you stayed in the stand. Could you tell if the dog had a collar? If it did and you could catch him you'd know who to talk to about it. I've had similar problems with dogs like that in the past too but it's been a long time since I've had it happen to me. Ravin R10 man
That only happens once here...per dog

Never did see one, but the dog was in tall grass at the edge of my clover plot. Wife seemed to think maybe someone intentionally let it loose to screw up the hunting. Don't know anyone that rabbit hunts this time of year, season is not even open yet i don't think.
smha6784
Dogs ugh... as much as I hate to say it its not the dog's fault. Its the owner's. Catch em return em first time, second time relocation, third time is the last. I once caught 2 dogs, knew who they belonged to the dog runner's next door, we spoke to them numerous times called ole green jeans to no avail, so this time I tied them to the owners bumper that didnt turn out well
fly
Beagles! Love them but never again. Always tracking with that nose and digging under the fence. Got my last one hit by a car.
hoosierhunter
Yeah unfortunately it isn't the dogs fault. They do not know better, but once they start you are not going to stop it or break them of it. I tough scenario. I've dealt with dogs a few times. In every case I found the owners and let them know they better keep the dog locked up because others will not be kind enough to warn them first. Although I've never encountered a dog running deer. They have always just been wondering around.
Dawg
I sat a pop up blind a few years back. Could hear a couple dogs and knew they had cut a track and were getting closer. Sure enough a longhorn spike busts out of the brush, stops long enough to catch a breath, then continues on. The two dogs appear a short time later. One dog left due to me not getting another round chambered quick enough.

On his way to his stand, they came out of the woods and I guess thought he was gonna run. He piled em up with his .308.
RangerClay
I had three dogs turn on me once when I was checking trail cams. Since then I never go to the woods unarmed and every dog dies.
wtnhunt
Checked my camera on a scrape line just out of eyeshot of the stand I was sitting last Saturday afternoon. Maybe a collar can be seen in the pic below? Dunno, not that it really matters. Sure this did not help matters for the morning either. dogdoc
William--Unfortunately i have a lot of dogs that get dumped in my area. If they are on my land chasing deer then they must go. We had a pack of around 8 dogs show up in our area. I've had them find me in a deer stand and bark at me and growl. They ended up killing a neighbors calf. I spend too much time and money getting my place ready for deer hunting to tolerate stray dogs chasing deer and ruining my hunt and stressing out the wildlife. todd
Ravin R10 man
William, we have wolf problems like you got dog problems, EXCEPT the deer here get killed not run out by them...found another kill Friday, this years fawn..too dumb to get away
VermontHunter
I may be a bad guy here ,, I will give a dog ONE free pass, after that I treat them as if they were a coydog, I hate to be that harsh but the deer and turkey's have a tough enough time with the wild mutts. Hope you don't have a problem that persists William.
jcot2773
I have a huge dog problem, now we run dogs as well, but we know our dogs and not our dogs. We shoot other dogs... I watched a retriever mix and a shepherd take down a mature doe, from that point on i said dogs get no more free passes.
dbHunterNY
I had a couple dogs ruin three solid weeks of the best time for bowhunting one year. they had collars but were so hiped up from chasing deer them wouldn't "come"
wtnhunt
Freaking beagle hounds running the woods beside the house Wednesday afternoon when I got home, ran all over our property along the river. There was more than one dog this time, they were baying just in the woods. Yesterday afternoon sat a stand I thought for sure I would see deer, conditions were pretty good, not a danged thing. If I can catch any dogs this year, they will find new homes!!! Not calling the owners anymore, unless it is after deer season is over.
