hoytman62
Before bow season, I was seeing bucks everywhere. Now none, but does! What's going on?
wtnhunt
Anything changing in the area you are hunting? Crops coming out, changing food sources, increased pressure, oncoming pre rut all could be factors. And then it could be just what some call the "October lull". jbeck
I call it the october lull around here, acorns hit the ground, deer are in winter coats and the temps arent cold enough. full moon, yep tis a por time of year to hunt around here, I will be waiting on November. Tominator
What William said. Deer in my area are constantly on the move, mostly due to crops I think. I'll see deer everyday from May to June, then it tapers off until the crops come off through November, then they disappear come winter because there's no cover for them, then the rotation starts again. Having said that, my biggest deer was shot October 12, 2008. 78 degrees and a full moon that night.
Rhino
Don't feel bad...Bill Winke was talking about the same thing on his Midwest Whitetail website.
RangerClay
On my bow property the deer have disappeared. The apple trees did not produce due to a late frost. Most of the deer are on an adjacent property hanging out in the corn fields. Now I have to wait for the corn to be cut and the rut to start. smha6784
I saw some raccoons walking around on stilts last weekend after closer examination, the stilts were deer hooves. I quickly asked the coon " hey man what are you doing? " in a very scared and rattled tone he replied " the green guy with the big head gave these to us and said that if we wanted to be left alone when they brought the deer back in February, that we need to walk around in these to fool the people that are dressed as trees. fly
No mature bucks in my cams since late August. Not even many does during September. Was not like this until 2012 when EHD hit. I think the deer in my area are rebounding - but slowly. Also, October lull seems to be more prevalent. If history repeats the action will pick up around Halloween.
