Video Camera for Duck hunting?

So I got the wife into duck/ dove hunting last year and she had a BLAST! She is all great guns now. Im thinking about picking up a 1080 camera for hunting. I, at first, was going to throw down a grand on a camera but have decided to see how this season goes first. Ive never filmed hunting so it could go either way. Im now thiking more like a Sony Handicam or something for the $250 - 300 range.

Low light will happen as most ducks we shoot at are coming in as soon as you can see 10' away. Battery life and expandable (digitial only) memory would be great too. Need the best bang for the buck. I plan on hunting pheasant early next year in Kanasas so this will very much be multi-use. I really need something with a zoom so that leaves out GoPro.

Ideas? Thoughts?

I use a Sony handycam a lot to self film and other filming great cameras for a lot of uses. With those cameras focus is automatic so as long as there's no brush or weeds in the way your good. One draw back is very poor low light shooting even with there so called low light technology. But I deer hunt a lot so woods are darker ducks your gonna be pointing it up so more light so its better for that.

No ideas about the current.

The Sony handycam i have is a mini dv model, was mid to upper consumer grade when i bought it. It does pretty good for the most part even in low light. Zeiss lenses maybe make a difference, dunno. It has a night shot feature that does work too in low light but it turns everything green tint.

I can do 720hd but not full 1080, my editing software and computer are outdated and would require an upgrade to handle full hd.

I would not hesitate to but another Sony if i were in the market.
