Ravin R10 man
Well it depends on what conditions you hunt in, and your skill level...are you in a ground blind, tree stand, close range, still hunt, open country, 150 yards shots or in close and tight 30 yards or less? Then what time of year is your season? warm, early season or later and cold, makes a big difference drawing and noise wise doing so.. The other thing is the hunter pressure during the different seasons. lots of things to consider. oh what about compound? jfrawley
Of the 3 I would go muzzleloader. Recurve bows take a lot of skill and practice to perfect them enough to hunt with. In most states the muzzleloader season falls in the rut, making the season a worthwhile time to hunt. A lot the range allows you to reach out a bit if a deer walks out past the bows range. wtnhunt
Muzzleloader here.
Tim Andrus
I would go with Muzzleloader can use them during early/ late seasons plus reg gun season depending on where you live. Also get a CVA Apex like myself you can buy rifle ,shotgun barrel when you want and have 3 in 1 gun.
dogdoc
Welcome to the forum. If I had to buy just one I would get the crossbow. Mainly bc our muzzle loader season is only 9 days long. Of course we can us the ML during our 2 week rifle season also. However, with a crossbow I can hunt 3 1/2 months with a crossbow. But save your money and get both. If it is ML season you can bet I am leaving the bow at home. Big difference and more opportunities when you can reach out to 150 yards compared to 30 or so. You can get some fairly decent ML packages pretty cheap these days---and they are pretty dang accurate out to 100 yards. todd
Ravin R10 man
only thing I do not have is a crossbow, that isn't far off I suspect, as my rotor cuffs are acting up, and it is difficult to get to full draw on my compound.. sounds like ML is the advice at this point. .it will also reach out to those "other" four legged furry criters our ML season is a week, rifle is a week, however bow is nearly 3 months Edited November 11, 2014 by Mathews XT Man
fly
Crossbow all day. In IL the ML only season is 3 days out of the year. Crossbows are legal about 6 weeks.
