a_10acboy
I am hunting a military base. They have about 50,000 acres that are divided into hunting areas and you just park on the shoulder of the road to the area you are going to hunt after you reserve your spot. I hunted an area today that had a lot of sign and I saw a few doe. Leaving at sunset I notice someone had the little reflective path markers running down through the woods. They start about 75 yards into the woods and I don't know where they lead. My question is, if I am hunting that area again, is it bad sportsmanship to follow the markers and possible hunt someone's potential honey hole? What would you do? smha6784
If it was their honey hole they shouldn't have left big shiny markers and signs saying come this way. But if it were me i wouldn't. You never know who that person is or what mind set they are you may come out the woods to a disabled truck. With all that said i wouldnt i would respect that persons area. I mean you did say 50,000 acres thats plenty real estate
Ravin R10 man
if those were your markers would you be happy if a hunter came in checking it out with you in your stand? Must be more than one good spot to hunt there.
fly
I hunt public ground a lot and have found those markers on many occasions. Some of them have been there for over 10 years and i'm sure the owner will never remove them and may not even hunt or be alive anymore. On a military base the owner may be on a different base so I wouldn't worry about it. Especially since you have to register for the area. However, I have never relied on those markers to take me to a good spot. I enjoy finding a good spot on my own.
Tominator
Seems to me someone will have a record of who hunts what area. I would contact that person and see if the blazer tacks are theirs, and if not, check out the spot. If another hunter is in the area, I'd respect their area and stay out. wtnhunt
Probably would not follow them, unless my own instincts were leading me that way. If it is an area only given to you that year then you should be able to check to see if it is worth your while. Probably would not hurt to mention to someone in charge just in case someone is where they shouldn't be. If gun hunting is involved that could potentially be a dangerous situation. stevebeilgard
i'd sure check out the protocol for that hunt area. that said, you found your own sweet spot. getting a nice deer in your spot will be better than in someone else's. a_10acboy
I was pretty much feeling what you all replies with. I just wanted to know if I was being too courtesy. I ended up finding another spot that has a lot of intesecting trails in the same area and going to check another spot. Just this one area is about 800 acres so I am sure there are other spots
