Illinois Buck bit the dust!

Hunt or be Hunted

I've got to say, I'm pretty proud of this deer... Here is the story..

Me and a buddy of mine threw this hunt together within an hour. We were talking and both had the evening off. So why not go hunting? The time we got to the land it was already close to 4PM. I wanted to hunt a stand that we hung about a week ago. It set right off the road. Easy and quick to walk to.. We said our good lucks and took off on our way. As I walked up to the stand I busted out 3 does..I had a bad feeling that it was going to be a bad evening and I haven't even climbed up the stand yet...

So I got settled in and put my mask on.. No later then me putting my mask on and putting an arrow on, A doe walks right up on me. She walks to my left and I let her fly.. Hit her a tad bit low so I was going to sit in the stand a little longer and give her plenty of time to pass away, Not 15 minutes later I look up and here he comes walking the same path that the doe came in on.. I thought "You've got to be kidding me..There is no way.." Oh but there was a way, He walk right to the same spot I shot the doe at. He looked the other way and I was able to pull my bow back As soon as I did he started walking, I stopped him and he was turned twords me.. I knew it was now or never.. I locked it on right behind his shoulder and let it rip. And he ran around 25 yards and stopped and not 15 seconds later down he went! Texted my buddy and let him know what has happened and he came running to my stand. We got down the found the buck real easy. We tracked the doe for over 250 yards until we ran out of blood..

We thought this was a buck we called the great 8.. But later we looked at all the trail camera pictures ad we've never seen this deer before. I'm pretty proud of him. My 2nd biggest buck of all time.
