Ravin R10 man
We Shut down logging equipment before dark....Then..we hear a hound dog howling not far off the landing..I figured he's got a bobcat treed, so we head down off the trail 50 yRDS, and find him sitting there caught in a snare! Dog was smart enough to know not to keep pulling, he was wrapped around a small sapling. Wolves would have gotten him overnight if not found. Guy I was working with would not go near him, I told him he's just a hound dog, he's used to being handled, he aint gonna bite nobody...so I jumped right in there...he was a good 'ol dog...just happy to be rescued..lol I let him go and he turned to go back the way he came....next thing ya know,..he comes back and hangs around me...he's like..you aint too bad to hang with..think I'm gonna stay by you! Seems someone came thru on a sled and set snares for bobcats...no tags on snare so it is set illegally... I got the dog out and saw it had a GPS collar.. and figured owner would be tracking him down, so I put him in the back of my truck on a throw rug, he was tired and cold...called the two phone numbers on the ID coller and left messages..... So I had to fuel up, and figured I'd then go out to the Highway and call again or wait for owner to track us down, but, while I was doing that, here come the owner down the woods road following the gps signal..right up to my truck. Turns out I know the guy, he is a local retired DNR warden. They turned the dog loose at 10 a.m. and were running Bobcats, then they got the truck stuck, and spent most of the day getting that out. It all turned out, dog is fine, and back to owner. HE TOOK PHOTOS OF THE SET. I used to let him run his dogs for coon here. He was elated I'd take the time to help his dog. Dnr will be notified .on illegal set Edited December 9, 2014 by Mathews XT Man

RangerClay
Good for you Martin! Great story! Hope they catch the illegal trappers. I once caught a black lab in a fox set when I was a teen. After I released him he too hung out with us for the rest of the day.

Ravin R10 man
I like reading a story like that' date=' good job[/quote'] Thanks...I know how much these guys have invested, and time put into the dogs....I used to run coon & yotes with a Farmer I knew growing up. Running hounds is a blast! The concern they have for those hounds is unbelievable.
