Rhino
With the rut closing in here in MS, I spent some time hunting my new turf down here last week. After a cool front moved through last week I headed to the camp Wednesday to put some time in a stand. Wed. afternoon I decided to set up on the ground looking at a fairly large food plot between a river and some steep ridges. To say the least it was a wild hunt. From the time I set up I saw deer starting with a young 6 point chasing a doe. During the last 30 minutes of the hunt deer were coming from everywhere. Saw 1 mature 8 point messing with does but opted to pass him. In all I saw somewhere close to 30 deer & ~12 bucks. Thursday afternoon I opted to hunt the same spot on the ground since the wind was the same and the action was crazy. 1st deer to show up was a young buck ~4:15. 3rd buck to show was the same mature 8 point I opted to pass Wed., so I passed him again. The 8th buck to appear was another mature 8 point bigger than anything I'd seen on the place so far. At ~125 yards I dropped him at ~5:00 that afternoon. Didn't notice part of his right G2 was broken off when I shot him but I'm happy with the 1st buck I've killed in MS on the new club I'm in now and the 3rd mature buck of the season for me. To say the least I'm having a great season & the rut is just starting to crank up here in MS. Looking forward to some more fun in the MS woods later this week. The odd thing I noticed between the 2 days is Wed. the vast majority of the deer I saw came from the bottom ground toward the river and from the north. On Thursday all the deer I saw came from the ridges. Not sure what to make of that yet.

Rhino
Three nice bucks in one season! That's pretty cool. Al' date=' are you mounting any of these deer?[/quote'] The 1st 2 10 points I got in MO bowhunting are getting shoulder mounted. They will go on the wall at our place in MO along with my buddy's 11 point he killed the day after I killed my 1st MO buck. The MS buck I got last Thursday is in for a skull mount. I'll put him on the wall at the camp here in MS. My taxidermist said he may have all of them ready by Christmas.

Where I used to hunt in the hills of southern Claiborne Co. we started seeing some chasing during the 2nd week of Dec. Usually get the best rutting action the week before & the week after Christmas. Headed back Thursday.
Tominator
Nice job Alan! By the way, don't try and figure out what a whitetail will do and why they do it, it only drives you crazy.
