Turkeygirl
Have not done alot of goose hunting, still a newbie but went out this weekend with my dad and a neighbor. Neighbor is brand new to it, I ended up being the primary caller. We had a little over 50 decoys between the 3 of us. Se up in a cut cornfield to catch them flying off a lake to feed. Lots of geese in the distance, managed to call in a group of 4...we all missed. Then called in a group and the neighbor and I each took one....it's an awesome feeling to nock a goose out of the sky! Then we had a big flock coming in, but they saw something they didn't like and went back up. This AM went out again, we set up same field. Little bit slower....few came in to look but they either new where they were going or didn't like something. Laying in my blind and I look to the left to catch a pair coasting in to our set-up, I'm on the left so I'm like "got 2 coming in!" They come in, go back up, circle, I honk, they come back in and land, neighbor gives the go and we pop up, neighbor and I each took one, my dad got tangled up in his white sheet, lol....we had snow on the ground so use white sheets for cover. Such a fun weekend, fun to see the neighbor have success.
Ravin R10 man
Congrats to both of you...they get real wary after they have been fooled before... if you can bring them in and not get busted, you have done something right.... I just take the breasts, saves a lot of time, although I have taken the legs, just takes more time. actually saw a flock Sunday in a freshly combined corn field....thats about as late as I've seen them here Edited December 22, 2014 by Mathews XT Man
Turkeygirl
That's what I did XT...took the breasts and legs....breast meat is delicious! They are darn easy to take the breast off....wish squirrels were that easy to clean, lol

rbduck
Great pic and congrats on the two hunts. On a side not, if you have the time, keep the thigh/legs as they make a great soup. Ron
dogdoc
gotta love knocking those huge birds out of the sky. concentrate on that head. Our eyes get fooled into looking at the movement and most of the time we end up shooting behind the bird. It is deceiving how fast they are really flying bc they are so big. Field hunting can be a little tough also--especially in an open field. Layout blinds help but those smart birds have learned what a layout blind looks like. Ruth--look into getting a goose flag. I have found it to be the best way to get geese to finish. Better than calling in my opinion. they can see that flag from a long way out. congrats on the birds. Just wish they tasted a little better. todd

Turkeygirl
Thanks guys. I'll be looking forward to next goose season! I do have a flag and yes I did keep the legs/thighs. I love the taste of goose breast, we just sauteed some thin slices, yum, then we also seared a breast and cut it, delicious! Would like to get a banded bird some day! Ravin R10 man
I've gotten about 6 banded birds maybe more, a neck band on a Canada , we even got a snow goose once with a band, bird was ten years old.. exciting to have a flock commit and work the decoys; Edited February 23, 2015 by Mathews XT Man
