A first for me............

Took my flintlock out this morning and after I watched a flock of 28 turkeys fly down all around me, I caught this little dude sneaking across below me. I glassed this deer HARD and had it pegged as a yearling doe. WRONG. I am still kicking myself in the rear for shooting a button buck. But anyhoo.......... I left a PA Conical loose from 80 grains of FFg at 60-ish yards and whooped him just exactly where I was aiming. He ran about 25-30 yards before bouncing off a couple trees and hitting the ferns. Ba-da-bing !! My first flintlock deer.

This flintlock thing could become QUITE addictive !!

I have another doe tag I'm fixing to pin on another flintlock deer.

Thanks fellers !!

General muzzleloader season here is flintlock ONLY. Was pretty nice this morning....................ended up being near 60 degrees this afternoon. My kinda winter so far. Now if it would only stay this way til April !!!

See that is were there is a huge difference from state to state. Interesting how much regs can vary state to state. Our muzzleloader season opens early in November and you are allowed any muzzleloader including modern muzzleloaders and no scope limitations other than that you have to use available light(no light enhancing scopes or artificial light). Minimum caliber requirement if I am not mistaken is 36. Season here runs up until our general firearms opens. You can use a muzzleloader during the firearms season and I have hunted with mine during the regular gun season. Our muzzleloader season here is really the best season to hunt whatever you are hunting with, be it modern muzzleloader more primitive or archery.

Some states you can use large bore centerfires during the "primitive" season, seems I recall Mississippi being one of those were a 35 whelen or maybe a .358 fits the criteria to hunt with as a muzzleloader.

Crazy weather too, yep. It was colder here back in November, matter of fact think the morning I killed my muzzleloader buck this year was one of in if not the coldest day we have had so far this season.

With whatever, congratulations again, pretty cool to take one with a flintlock. Definitely be some fine eating there, and as said above plenty of buttons get mistaken as does.
