hoosierhunter
How many inches of ice do you have up there?
Maine Hntr
Just got back from a weekend in Maine, even they don't have much up there right now! Maybe 6 inches in spots where I was, not your average thickness for this time of year, been warm. Can't even think about it in Mass, still got open water! The Bug House
Only made it out once so far. We had 6" or so prior to that Christmas thaw. Everything's buttoned up pretty well now, the next 10 days or so will grow some serious ice.

Ravin R10 man
...Someday, ... I'd like to have a cabin on a lake and ice fish whenever I want.......Hey..a guy can dream, right Bug? Bummer we gotta drive to northern Mn. to have decent fishing. Lake Of The Woods would be my top choice. Edited January 19, 2015 by Mathews XT Man

The Bug House
That's where I luck out Martin, I'm 15 minutes from the River where we set our shack and about 2.5 hours from my families camp. I could jump off the deck into the lake! Headed over in Feb for our annual fishing/food extravaganza.
The Bug House
Got out all day yesterday, got the shack out with no problems, even cooked up some eggs/cheese/venison on the woodstove. We had several flags and lost 2, one of which seemed biggish. I'm on for a couple weeks of overnights, might just have to drill a few in the morning and take a little snooze next to the stove. Forecast low tonight is -25 and windchills -40 to -50.
Ravin R10 man
Yup I'd have a heated sleeper shack out there..I'd probably have to evict Andy so I could use it I bet..or get me a Snow bear and go where I want and fish in style! Maine Hntr
ordered up the jiffy pro 4 lite from cabela's, propane with the 8" auger. can't wait to drill some holes. Not at a dealer cost but Cabela's card, on sale, $5 shipping and used some points so it ends up being a pretty good deal!
Ravin R10 man
u will like it...trust me Edited January 18, 2015 by Mathews XT Man
Maine Hntr
yeah you've got bigger bodies of water to work with out your way which most likely means bigger fish, an 8" hole pretty much will suffice for most fish coming through the ice here on the east coast. Don't get me wrong there are some big fish but it would be a rare occasion for an 8" hole to not be big enough! Good luck Sunday.

RangerClay
I'm still waiting to go out. The weather has been terrible cold here and 2-3 feet of snow on the ice is making the walk unbearable.

The weather has been terrible cold here and 2-3 feet of snow on the ice is making the walk unbearable. It's definitely some tough walking, be a lot nicer if you own a sled. It wasn't that bad though once I got 100 yards or so off shore, once you get out into the more open areas the wind seemed to have blown it off to only 6" or so of snow. Ravin R10 man
no snow on the ice at all over this way, last year, we had what you do, snow & slush underneath...not fun trying to walk in that.even snowmobiles get bogged in that stuff..I never even went on the ice here last year.
