im your huckleberry
been pondering this for about 6 months now, done some research and come up with one of the fine 338's, but which one. 338-06 is a wild cat no factory ammo,338 federal no range. this leaves me the magnums and lapua is there anybody with experience with this caliber that could help me out? Shaun_300
I'd go with a .338 Win Mag. Probably the most popular of that caliber so ammo availability won't be an issue. .338 Lapua is a little overkill for elk and moose imo. There's also the. 338 Rem Ultra Mag and .325 WSM you could look into. Factory ammo will be expensive... Probably minimum $50-60/box. Not sure if you reload or not but you may want to consider it if you plan on doing a fair bit of shooting.
Strut10
If you're dead set on a .338, then why not a .340 Weatherby. Best (beast) of both worlds.
fly
I hunt with the 300 Rem Ultra Mag. It's good for deer in the light loads, black bear and elk in mid-load and grizzly in high load. The ammo is not easy to find. Generally I go to cabelas to get it. If I was to buy a 338 if get the win mag.
im your huckleberry
finally saved up enough to buy a 300 wby mark v i figured this would be plenty for most places in N.A except for maybe Kodiak island or the Nahanni valley. I know i wanted a 338 but when a good deal comes along you take it had to show pics i believe they missed this piece of wood for the deluxe line up.
