Winter Time blues

Recommended Posts

I'm busy checking trail cams and seeing what made it through before the antlers are gone Tim. I'm also making a video of my season and most years I hold an annual "depression" dinner in February for my hunting friends. We generally have an archery contest (weather permitting) deer chili, and share hunting stories from the past year. I'll also be attending the Deer expo in late Feb. That gets me into March when it's time to start shed hunting in my area and planning the April Turkey hunt.

No winter time blues for me, I love winter! We're on modified layoff at work starting this week sl I only work 2 or 3 days a week until the end of March, but still get 95% of my salary when we're off. So I have lots of time to enjoy it. Got a new toy at the start of the season. A customer brought this in late last year stating the pullcord was stuck. Well that was due to him failing to put oil in the injection reservoir (it's a 700cc 2 stroke) one of the pistons was melted and seized to the cylinder.... doh!! He traded it for a new one. I ended up buying it and rebuilt the engine. Have around $800 in it including the price of the sled and parts. Pretty good deal considering some of them of this year and shape are going for $2500-3000. Anyways been riding around any chance I have around the 100 acres I live on. I've only been out once trying to kill some coyotes, but plan on doing that more often too. Could literally shoot them off my front porch if they come out in the fields. Other than that I've been cutting firewood to keep me occupied. Gotta get out and do some ice fishing soon!

I can't see any pics Shaun. Sounds like a good deal on the sled....a Skidoo I hope  .

I have one more weekend to try and get my daughter a deer still. Her softball practices started last night, so that takes up some time and gets us out of the house. I have to spend 8 days in Florida for work in the beginning of February. When I get back from that it will be time to start prepping for next season...scouting, moving stands, cutting a few trees down. Before you know it turkey season is here, the days are getting longer, and ball season is firing up. I guess i don't have time to get the winter blues lol. Plus I still plan on hitting a few hockey games and taking the kids skating.

Tried attaching a pic of my snowmobile in my last post but I don't see it... is it showing up for anyone? Using the mobile app... still not used to it 100% lol.

Nope don't see any pics or attached links. Probably have to load em from a computer unless you host them at a hosting site like photobucket, photobucket has issues too!

The season runs through the end of this month here in MS. Not sure how much I'll be able to hit the woods before it's over. I have a lot family matters to handle on my plate right now. I still have 4 trail cams out though. Need to loosen up the stands I'm leaving in the woods in MS & pull the ones I'm going to move. Even once I get that behind me it's a fairly short wait till the MS spring turkey season opens on 3/15. Need to do some preseason listing for gobblers before then too. I'll probably wait to mess with the stands in MO when turkey season opens. Can't hunt there after 1:00 anyway.

Got my shanty out last week, been ice fishing every chance I get. Big game closed over a month ago, and its been pretty cold. Seems we're knee deep into Winter! Still have a camera out, been quite a while, I should check the batteries. Hoping to find some sheds. My daughter started her ski program at school, I volunteer to chaperone, so we're at the mountain every Thurs. We have a groomed sledding hill and a great outdoor skating rink in town, take advantage of them quite a bit. Oh yea, I've been enjoying the Venison from my first Deer!!
