Tominator
Ohio season ended yesterday. Compared to the last 3 for me, it was a heck of a lot more fun. I was able to bowhunt quite a bit. Passed up numerous does, fawns, and little bucks. Never saw a shooter buck while bowhunting. Only saw one shooter all year, but I never got a shot at him. I was able to shoot 1 doe with the muzzleloader during the early ML season, and my son got a big doe during the youth season, his first, so overall, I was pretty happy with my season. My wife ruptured a disc in her back in mid December, she had surgery on January 20th, so I wasn't able to hunt much at all in that time frame. Rhino
Mine was a heck of a lot of fun too. Sent 3 bucks to the taxidermist...2 shoulder mounts on MO bow kills, and 1 skull mount on a MS gun kill. With the timing of my 2 MO buck kills I wasn't able to spend as much time in the MO woods as I have the past couple of years. Why? Well...my 1st buck tag was filled on 9/23 so I couldn't buck hunt until my 2nd buck tag was good for the opener of the MO gun season on 11/15. Hard to make the 9 1/2 hour drive just to hunt does in MO but did during the 1st week or so of Nov. Bagged a doe on that trip. Bowhunted during the 1st week of the gun season and bagged my 2nd buck on 11/20. I saw more mature shooter class bucks than last year too and had 3 in easy bow range. One of those while I was doe hunting before I could use my 2nd MO buck tag. Like you, family matters limited my time in the woods in MS causing me to miss the best rutting action down here. Did bag a nice mature MS buck before the rut cranked up though. Very much looking forward to the 2015 season. Sorry to hear about your wife Chris. Hope she has a complete and speedy recovery.
wtnhunt
Sorry to hear about your wife Chris, hope she has a full recovery. Congratulations to your son. Season here was up and down. Had a few days of great activity in early November. Youth hunts were a bust, had high temps and wind for the early season and was miserable the late season. Statewide harvest numbers down again, I think for the third year in a row now. A few does around, they may rebound. Should be some decent bucks for this coming year from what we are getting post season on trail cams(knock on wood). We just have to hold out and hope that nothing catastrophic to our hunting happens with changes on the neighboring farm. Already know the boy plans to timber out 8 acres beside our house and towards our back field and pasture it. Edge will remain on our side of the property, don't know how it might impact travel and bedding.
fly
Sounds good to me Chris. 2013 was a great year for me even though i didn't take a mature buck. My son got his first buck and he and i got to help my father get his buck. While I saw more deer this past season, harvested more deer, and have 2 mature bucks at the taxidermist I'd rate 2013 as the better season. I don't think anything will top watching my 11 year old run up to his downed 6-poiner. Although, I haven't killed a 200 class buck yet either. Tominator
My wife is doing pretty good actually. The surgery was borderline minor/routine, (only took 28 minutes to complete). She has about a 3" incision right on her lower spine. They went in, clipped out the ruptured part and sewed her back up. Doc says it looked like she might have some permanent damage and that she might not ever get 100% feeling back in her toes, but as of last week, she said most of the feeling has come back in her foot, and her toes are tingly, so we're hopeful. Thanks for the concern fellas.
