Headed to the mountains of Utah

Wish it was to track a mountain lion but that will be another day. Going to do some skiing in the Canyons ski resort. I've been to the smaller slopes of the Mississippi bluffs in northern IL and Iowa, but never to a "real" ski resort. My plan is to avoid destroying any trees with my face and to snap a picture of the elusive Bigfoot.

I look for the "Easiest Way Down" signs!

The Canyons is a large area with a beginners area in the middle with Green runs. To experience the entire resort one has to do single blue's which is all I did. Hot tub later then headed back to IL tomorrow.

I spent a year in Utah back in the early 80s. Worked in the oilfield for Halliburton Services.

We went all over the state and into CO, WY and NV cementing in and fracking oil wells.

I lived in Vernal, in the Uinta Basin - about 6000' elevation.

UT is an incredibly beautiful state. Much of it wilderness. We went into some very desolate areas. Places where they had to build roads to get there and then get towed by big dozers to get our trucks up into the mountains.

I loved Utah and western CO. Lots of game, very good, friendly people. Most of them Mormons who seemed to be good salt of the earth types.

I seriously considered staying there but all my family and friends were still in MN so I migrated on.

The wildlife there and the flora is very subtle. Dry, brown, desert hills that you wouldn't expect to support much life.

But get 1/4" of rain and the hills would blossom into a carpet of tiny flowers almost overnight.

Full of prarrie dogs and bunnies (who loved to run under our truck tires)

I bought this old truck out there and rebuilt it. Drove it all over, into MT, up the AlCan and ultimately back to MN.

It was pretty cool and had no rust.

I'd like to get back out there one of these days just to look around. Do the tourist thing. Spend a week maybe and just drink in all the beauty again.

But I've gotten off on a tangent here. Sorry.

I hope you have some fun out there.

Edit, This sure is some kinda goofy forum software. Makes it hard to UL a photo.

Anyway.

Here's a link to the old truck.

It was 1948 1 1/2 Ton Diamond T

Tim, I've never been to Hidden Valley but everyone I talk to says its okay to learn there but go elsewhere to ski. Galena IL has a small resort (Chestnut). It's decent and not to far of a drive. If your kids ever want to ski you might consider it. It's near Wisconsin on the bluffs of the Mississippi.

Ultradog, that is one sweet looking old truck. Utah is a great state. I caught the biggest Brown of my life in the Provo river some years ago.
