Rhino
A couple of days ago we finally had weather where we could listen for gobbling turkeys. Not the best weather since it was mostly cloudy but at least it was cool & calm for the 1st couple of hours of daylight. I heard about 12 birds. Could have been more since the distant gobbles I heard could have been more than 1 bird. Typical early preseason type gobbling activity though. By that I mean gobble pretty good on the roost & shut down after their feet hit the ground. Covered as much ground as I could on my Polaris EV while they were gobbling. Got several birds begged down IF they keep roosting close to the same trees. Unfortunately, no way to keep tabs on their movement after touch down with gobbling activity shutting down. Stayed in the woods till ~9:30 scouting. Saw 2 gobblers & a jake while easing around and scouting in my EV. Looks like it's going to be a promising season at my new turkey hunting turf in MS. Going to be a tough start though with no sign of spring green up yet thanks to winter holding on a lot longer than usual here in MS. I suspect gobbling activity will most likely be like it was the other day too...hope not. Season opens Saturday.
