Rhino
This is going to be a pic heavy post. As you know from my other post I killed my 1st MO gobbler on opening morning with my bow. In MO hunters can only kill 1 of their 2 gobbler limit the 1st week. That allowed me to sleep in the next morning while my best friend hunted. Thought I'd share the view from the back deck of the camp this past Tuesday morning while I was enjoyed my coffee. View to the SW View to the W View to the NW Here's the back of our MO Camp On to turkey hunting. By the end of legal shooting time Tuesday my best friend was still in search of his 1st MO gobbler and he had invited our company's CPA to come for the hunt. I was his guide since my best friend needed to go for his bird. Wednesday morning was perfect weather...clear, cool, & calm. As I was setting out decoys birds started gobbling on the roost. No clue how many but a lot behind where I had chosen to set up. At flydown the game begins. In front of us is a 106 ac. field. While exchanging turkey talk withe gobblers, we see multiple deer. Can't remember how many but probably ~20. The oddest thing was 5 bucks walked in and one was still wearing his right side antler. Couldn't believe it. It was easy to see glassing the others that new antler growth was well on its way. Those bucks decided to walk toward the gobbling birds. Usually a bad thing. Sure enough...one blows at them. Gobbling quits for several minutes then commences again in response to my calling. A short time later we start hearing the noise of the birds walking in the leaves behind us. All calling now is soft clucks & purrs. Out steps 2 hens and a nice gobbler in full strut ~20 yards to my left. I whisper to my buddy "good bird...take him when you can". The bird struts straight to our decoys I set at ~25 yards. Before he arrives, he catches the shot load at 6:50 that morning. While the bird is flopping on the ground he says "That was so cool! First time I've ever seen a gobbler strutting." Gotta love it!!! My CPA buddy's bird has a 10 1/4" beard with spurs that are 1 3/8" and 1 5/16" My best friend also scored on his 1st gobbler of the year that same morning. His bird had a 10 1/2" beard with spurs 1 1/4" & 1 5/16". 3 big old birds killed in 3 days. Heading back Thursday for our 2nd birds. Late that afternoon we all enjoyed our favorite beverage enjoying this sunset. Edited April 27, 2015 by Rhino
