Rhino
Little surprised to see it took that long for the jakes to decide to mistreat your DSD jake decoy. They usually don't hesitate that long to whip up on mine. Gobblers go right into attack mode. I learned real quick to set the hen decoys off to one side or the other so they're outside the shot pattern area. I've also had hens peck the heck out of my DSD hen decoys too. On a few occasions I've had gobblers standing on top of my jake decoy giving it a thrashing. DSD decoys get an unbelievable response compared to any other decoys I've ever tried. They are expensive but worth the money IMO when you consider the show they provide year after year with the response they get from the birds. Last year I killed my 1st MO gobbler shortly after flydown. 3 gobblers came in to attack the jake decoy. After I shot the biggest of the 3 the 2 survivors came right back to my flopping bird, attacked it and my jake decoy. I was stuck there watching a great show after that till 10:30. The other 2 gobblers mounted my jake and one of the hens. I also had 3 other gobblers along with multiple hens come in and had a gobbler fight happen within 20 yards of me. The show was so good, I didn't want to quit watching. At 10:30 I finally decided to shoo the last 2 gobblers off so I could get my gobbler & leave the area. My best friend laughed when he saw muddy gobbler tracks on the back of my jake decoy. BTW...I also have the full strut DSD gobbler decoy...you attach a real fan, wings, and a beard to it. It basically gets the same response as the jake decoy. Only problem is gobblers will quickly mess up the real fan attached to it during an attack. Had it set up in MO 2 years ago...2 gobblers came in...I shot the trailing gobbler. The lead gobbler continued to my gobbler decoy and attacked it...12 steps from me. It's a lot more trouble to set up in the dark or low light attaching the extras too. For that reason, I mainly use the jake with hen decoys. I still do a lot of timber hunting in MS and don't usually use decoys chasing them in the timber but field setups are great with DSD decoys.
