Nothing but silence, other than song birds, and squirrels doing that wheeze bark. Now thinking it's the famed gobbling lull, but this early in the season? Ravin R10 man Posted May 7, 2015 Report Share Posted May 7, 2015 (edited) I have not heard a gobble from the house all spring...got a few jakes on cam still, birds are not even out in fields here....numbers are way down from two years ago, but with a hen setting on a nest of 14, things should pick up after this year. RangerClay Posted May 7, 2015 Report Share Posted May 7, 2015 I hunt NY just like you do and you are not alone. Opening day was a Friday so I couldn't get out till day two. We were in the woods at daybreak and hunted till 11am plus we hunted three different properties. We did not hear or see a single bird all morning. That was not the worst. If you are familiar with the rolling hills of Madison County, you know you can see and hear for miles. We never heard one single shot all morning. I know we were not the only guys in the woods that day but for no one to shoot is pretty bad. I'm not sure if it was our bad winter or what but the turkeys are gone. Strut10 Posted May 8, 2015 Report Share Posted May 8, 2015 I am convinced that this winter was REALLY hard on the turkeys here. Have found no evidence of dead birds yet. But the numbers are WAY down.
