Adjam5
I know some of you guys a long time and y'all are my Realtree family. So...I went to my property in Texas mid April and shot a Axis and a Muntjac. These are free range animals. I do not high fence hunt or pay to hunt these exotics. I am VERY fortunate to have a great friend cross the road who keeps my feeders filled and keeps a close watch on my land in the Hill Country of Texas. This was my 7th trip to Texas. Each time I go I always wish I can stay. I stayed 2 weeks this time . The Axis. Not a trophy, but free range and and FREE! The Muntjac was a BIG Bonus. Back in January my close friend from Georgia shot the #1 SCI Muntjac on my land. He said there were 4 more roaming the land when he shot his. Well..It wasn't much of a hunt. I was standing on my friends deck and his dogs were chasing the Muntjac around on the front portion of his ranch cross the road from my place.. He whislted, the dogs came home. I grabbed a rifle and shot the Muntjac. Very cool deer specie. Look at the fangs. Matter of fact the oldest deer specie on earth. Rare deer indeed. It had to get off someones ranch and in Texas...If it is on your property, it is a non native specie and you are licensed for the taking of such...Bang. I am having a Euro skull mount done. This is a mature Muntjac. My son Joe is headed down to Texas for July 4th. I hope my mount is ready.

elkoholic
Interesting looking critter. I wonder if the Muntjac put those fangs to good use in a defensive situation. A couple of nice trophies there.

Adjam5
Thanks Ruth...Axis is way sweeter tasting than whitetail...I have known this for a few years now. The Muntjac I have not eaten yet. It is butchered, frozen and waiting for my son Joe to take it home when he comes back from Texas this 4th of July. Hopefully my Euro mount is ready also! Oh yeah....Ruth...You can call me by by name...Anthony or Tony. Dawg
Cool deal Tony, congrats! My dad was hunting some public land over that way back in January and shot a couple of Axis. He was kind enough to share the meat and I must say it is better than whitetail. The Muntjac is way cool. Should be an awesome looking mount. I just looked and it's been two years since our PM about the Green Screen, time flies! Give an update on the Muntjac once it makes it back to you. I'm interested in how it tastes. BTW....I changed my screen name over there, it's TCR2.....the 2 is actual the square symbol but it doesn't seem to work on RT.
JJL
You are really blessed to have opportunities such as that. Nice work and congratulations on the trophies. That Muntjac reminds me of a gal I dated in College...........long story.

BE SURE to post your pics of your euro mount. Very very cool my friend but next time please text me some pics. :camera: I will Joe...sorry for not keeping you in the loop with this one. My son Joe and his girlfriend just got back from our property in Texas yesterday. He was there for 5 days and hunted every single minute of it. The Axis did not cooperate for my son, but one good boar stepped out one night hunt and was ventilated properly with a 25-06. My Euro mount is not yet done But Joey did bring my Muntjac meat back. All 10 lbs of it! :clown:. The backstraps are the size of inside tenderloins on a whitetail. Maybe this weekend I'll eat some of the Muntjac. I have a party to go to in Binghampton this Saturday. I'll bring it there.
dbHunterNY
Awesome pictures Anthony! don't know if you're still at the memorial, been scarce and out of the loop, five years will come soon enough. Tink is always up to stuff down in TX and based on your trips to the hill country it should be one heck of a place to retire to.

Yup Texas is a sportsman's paradise where the opportunity never ends. Next is the trophy Axis. 30" main beam plus. Tink and I have not spoke in some time. Tink has a very clouded past and much of that is chasing him with a few problems in tow. I'm staying clear. I wish him well. I am no longer at the 9/11 Memorial. The job is complete and is a MAJOR tourist attraction. If you ever go to NYC please make it one of your stops. I am currently working on the largest residential bldg in NYC. 1,145 apartments in ONE bldg! 60 stories. Massive...but small living space. Retirement is right around the corner. dbHunterNY
I hear ya with Tink. I most definitely will see the memorial. It'd be the highest priority next time I'm down there. trips are rare though. I like upstate where I live a bit more. Albany is enough city for me most of the time and it's nothing compared to NYC. Nice job if it goes smoothly. That's bigger than most SUNY res dorm buildings I've designed elec for.
Adjam5
BTW...I had some of the Muntjac steaks for dinner Saturday evening. Marinated one in Mr Yoshidas Gourmet sauce and grilled one plain. The plain grilled one was sweet tasting. Almost like corn fed...LOL...they are corn fed! Its Texas!...The other one in the marinade came out awesome also. I grill over my apple tree trimmings, no more coals for me.
arrow32
Congrats on the great hunts. That's a crazy looking little animal never seen one of those before. I figure those steaks were very good.
