know exactly what 10 yards looks like in increments out to 40 yards on flat ground, up hill, and down hill. in the female hunter class you'll shoot from the orange stake which is supposed to be 30 yrds max plus maybe 2 for "range finder error". don't default to this though shoot it for what you think it is, some targets seem to be stretched out a little further and people get discouraged when they default to the rule book max and not estimate the range for themselves. shoot at know distances with a rangefinder and check them with casual foot steps. you'll be walking to check the target after everyone shoots. if you haven't read the rules and etiquette section of the IBO rules do so, there's some ticky tack crap in there. if people keep calling you out on an honest mistake at the very least it'll effect your shooting as if you were taking a drivers test. good luck!

Thanks db! Been practicing working on my shooting form' date=' also waiting for my 3D bow to get back from the shop, needed new string and tuning. the serving around the cams was getting worn weird - almost squared where it was coming in contact.[/quote']

yea practice a lot with side hills being mind full of canting your bow. up hill/down hill shots are where most are the weakest both in form and judging distance. for stability on very unlevel ground you've got to move your feet from just straight under you but that changes you natural relaxed point of aim. as in it might cause you to pull shots in different directions during follow through. watch out for size of targets. they'll put a small target before a large target but move the bigger one back so it looks the same yardage at first glance. also another good trick shooting over a rise in the ground to get to the target. it blocks your view from your feet along the ground to the target.

oh yea with a 2 cam bow like your elite if the cams are close but not perfectly timed it'll push the stop harder into the more advanced cam that's making contact before the other. you've probably put plenty of shots on the strings but stretch can cause cams to ever slightly loose time and serving separation just before the cams too. after a strings been shot a bit but before replacement I usually add half to one full twist or so to keep it were it needs to be depending what things look like. then you really need to just shoot to see if it makes any difference.

been going to a local league. IBO scoring, 30 targets, range is has been anywhere from 10 yards or so out to just over 50. bowhunting setups but some of us shoot an adjustable single pin versus a fixed pin sight. scores the last few weeks have been 301, 305, and 308. would definitely be higher if I didn't have so little time to shoot. keep up with the practice. remember perfect practice is better than practice. as soon as you know you're doing something wrong, take a short break and go back to shooting. don't dwell on it though, just start over. really focus on yardage practice as it gets closer to the shoot. constantly looking at objects 10 yards apart and in your case out to 40 yards (more than 30) helps.

378 with 8X out of 40 targets isn't bad. congrats! so what parts did you struggle with? practice that what you had a tough time with and you'll be high in the ranks next year. many people at the top work at a shop or have much more time to shoot then most of us. tough pill to swallow when you're trying to do really well.
