Rhino
Apparently the P&Y Club is conducting a membership drive. I received an email today asking me to come back. 1st time I've heard from them since I dropped my membership ~5 years ago. No sense going into why I dropped out (number of reasons) but they have made a couple of changes to their fair chase rules. They will now accept entries of trophies taken with lighted nocks and bow mounted video cameras. As most of you know, in the past any electronic device on your arrow or bow disqualified your trophy. Thought I'd pass that info on to y'all. That's 2 changes they've made that make sense.
wtnhunt
Thanks for passing along Al. Last posts I tried to reply to in this room would not go through, maybe it is working now??? Not likely I will ever kill a deer to make pope and young with archery gear. My best deer ever is real close to 130, I think, but taken with an open sighted rifle in bow range. Current problems with my back and shoulder, don't know that I will even get in a stand with the new crossbow this fall. p and y probably does not recognize deer taken with crossbow, or do they? Rhino
Here ya William...the forum made a change this morning (server I think) & this is the 1st time I've been able to start a thread here or post a reply to a thread here in a while. So far...seems to be working. Fingers crossed!!! Couple of years ago you were pursuing one we thought would be close to P&Y. Crossbow killed trophies don't qualify for P&Y. In the past P&Y has been EXTREMELY outspoken against states proposing legalizing crossbows for archery season. Even using the club's funds to lobby against it in those states. That's just one of the small straws on the camel's back regarding why I dropped my membership. Hope your back & shoulder issues get a lot better before this fall William. hoosierhunter
P&Y in my eyes has two predominant types of members. One being the old school guys who can't accept change and the other being ego junkies concerned about themselves as opposed to the deer. I'm sure plenty of good guys are members, but they do not outweigh all the bad apples IMO.
wtnhunt
Thanks Al. fwiw, TN's registry takes deer as "record" deer in the archery class at 115 typical and 140 non typical. I am guessing they do accept crossbow kills in that class since they made them legal as "archery gear". Muzzleloader class is 125 typical and 150 non typical, come kind of close to that, I think, with a few. Given what I think made it through there could be a few around this year that might crack that 125 mark, maybe it will be the year for one of the girls. Reminds me I need to check cards and get another camera out.

One of the top reasons I dropped out was...when you join P&Y you are a general member with no voting rights paying dues. After 14 years you were "eligible" for a regular membership with voting rights. Didn't mean you were automatically became a regular member...just eligible for approval from the regular members. If you didn't fit in with the majority of the regular members way of thinking...you'd never become one. The 14 year waiting period was recently changed to 10 years. While paying dues with no vote you either like where they were going or you don't...I didn't. No need to go there in this thread. I have a good friend who was a regular member...he dropped his membership for some of the same reasons I did.
Strut10
Wow.................. Did not know that there was such a waiting or probationary period before they would let you PAY to be a REAL member. B&C doesn't work that way. Now, I guess, if I want to shoot a whitetail and have it recorded, I'm gonna have to shoot a 170 incher instead of a 125 incher. I better get busy........ Rhino
Don...anybody can enter bucks into their record book, regardless if they're a member (of any kind) or not. Just fill out the paperwork, have it officially scored, submit the required pictures, & pay the entry fee. I don't see myself submitting anymore trophy entries into P&Y unless it makes B&C too. Both of the bucks I killed last year in MO would have easily made their minimum net score and both were killed under P&Y's fair chase rules. I've only submitted one buck to P&Y in the past & it made B&C too.
Ravin R10 man
After reading all that, it's no wonder people have dropped out, I sure wont become a member any time soon. Another one is that 'Super Slammer" club...just dont see the point in doing it for name recognition Edited July 3, 2015 by Mathews XT Man
smha6784
I went on a tirade about P&Y nonsense last year. I wrote them emails to try and get clarification and information, to no avail.
Rhino
Although I don't agree with where P&Y overall has been headed in recent years, they have done a lot for bowhunting since P&Y was formed in 1961. Their efforts in bettering the image of bowhunting and helping to prove the effectiveness of the bow has certainly been a part in states adopting archery seasons. For that we certainly owe the founding members our thanks.
Ravin R10 man
Most clubs do much good, as founders intended, and yes, we are thankful for that. However, somehow, some way, down the road, they often tend to morf into something the founders would not recognize..
