The work begins....

This past weekend kicked off my season prep work in earnest. I sprayed the fall plots with roundup, hit the clover with grass killer, trimmed some trees and planted two acres of beans. A few tweaks this season should make for a great early October. The stage was set last year for daylight movement and hopefully this year the right deer reads the script.

Pat; " reading the script"...or he" Read the Book"......to me thats like scratching a chalk board with your nails..that term bothers me...if anything a mature buck WRITES it..we are the ones trying to read it...imo.......ok I feel better now

The weather finally cooperated where we could get some projects done in MO. It's been raining a lot in that area...hot & humid too!

Spent last week there with a friend and thanks to a cool front moving through Tuesday, we were able to get a lot done. Besides regular summer chores to do around the camp, we managed to get 36 stands ready to hunt and set out 8 of our cams mainly on mineral licks in higher ground spots. Too much risk of flooding from more rain to run cams in the low areas. Most of our clover plots looked OK but some were under water long enough to kill everything in them...bummer. The ground was still saturated in those plots too. We'll probably head back in a couple of weeks to start planting fall plots...if it's not too wet. After the next trip, hope to have some buck pics on the cams to share too.

I had the Stihl out this afternoon for a bit cutting some trees that were on the trails. Still lots to do, got too dang hot to run a chainsaw this afternoon! Hopefully there'll be some cooler days in the near future so I can get some more stuff cut and trimmed up along the trails and around my future treestand area.
