Hillbilly
I have never seen or heard a turkey on my hunting land, but if you travel 4 miles to my friend's place, there's turkeys all over the place. Well, a week ago I was going into town and when I looked acrossed a field I get to hunt, I seen two huge Toms walking over with a g/f in front of them. My question is even tho I havent seen a turkey on my land ever until that day what are they doing??? Are they finding new homes new land to search for food. Or are they just passing through? If not passing through will more also come over. They had to fly over the river to get on my land. Just Curious.

HeviShot
Re: Got a Question! The same happens to me every year.My buddy has land about 2 1/2 miles away. His birds are eating 150 of corn a week.Looks like someone has been harrowing. You hardly ever see bird on my property until right before season. We both have ideal areas to hunt.I killed a limit off my property last year and still don't beleive it. He only killed 1.
Hillbilly
Re: Got a Question! I dont think they are only placing thru because they had to fly over the river. Don't think they are going to fly back over.
13littleones
Re: Got a Question! They may fly back over.... maybe they wont..... they are searching for hens now......turkeys move around a lot this time of year ..... the week before the season starts you may hear 10 birds....... the next week... big zero....when the mating starts.. the gobblers will be where the hens nest year after year....after the hens start laying on thier nest.... they start roaming and searching for hens again..... my guess your friends place holds some hens.. redbeard
Re: Got a Question! The toms are going to follow the hens, wherever they go.
Bruce Schmeck
Re: Got a Question! Nature abhors a vacuum. Provided the birds find the proper food, shelter, water sources, etc. the will disperse into your area and establish new territory. That's why it is vital to do plenty of preseason scouting, especially when they are in mating mode.
Guest beardsNspurs
Re: Got a Question! Same thing on one of the places I hunt. Turkeys are almost non-existent until a week or so before the season...then they are in there thick. But like what has already been said....longbeards will follow the hens. If they're in there than the toms will be there soon.
RatherBowHunt
Re: Got a Question! turkeys are lazy birds they dont like to cross ravines...big ditches...rivers and deep creeks etc. so that may be the reason they arent there...its the same with my g-mas land you can sit and watch the birds on the other side of the river and the habitat is the exact same sooo im not sure what they are thinking....
